No, this is not a steam shower – therefore there is no tile overhead.

A glass wall that doesn't move is going to be a nightmare. It gives no flexibility for cleaning - you'll have to get into the bath to clean that shelf, the taps and the bath as well as the inside of the glass. Perhaps this glass door swings and it's just a clever photo? As for the taps, they really do need to be on a different wall so you can turn them on before getting under the shower - having them on a side wall is better than having them on the back wall. I reckon you'd bump into them all the time, turning them on or off accidentally, if they were on the back wall. When I installed my shower room, I decided against glass and built a wall instead, tiled on the inside and painted on the outside. If you get the lighting right, it doesn't matter that it's a wall that doesn't let light in; you don't need daylight to wash, you just need light! And the tiles are much more forgiving in terms of cleaning than glass is. I realise this might not work for you if you are having an over the bath shower though, if you have room for a shower room and a bathroom you might not need one over the bath?

Hi There! Sorry to give you a terrible answer: it depends... Without making any assumptions, the tile size does not seem too large or should not be to heavy in theory. But it all depends on your walls... are they brick or are they stud walls? For the tanking, they are right as marble is a very porous stone. We highly recommend you seal it as well otherwise you will see staining over time. And the staining always will show as a shade of yellow due to the deposits of oil... What could be a solution if you are looking for a marble look but not dead set on genuine marble, is porcelain tiles with marble print. Nowadays these come in amazing quality that you could not tell look wise that they are not marble. However, they are thinner and lighter and therefore would be able to go on to your wall in a bigger format. They also do not require tanking or sealing as they are not porous. Dare I suggest not using metro tiles, unless you love them of course! I find too much tiling can make a bathroom look rather clinical and there are so many lovely tiles you could choose Instead. I think tile the obvious areas such as shower cubicle, around the bath and behind the sink. The rest of the walls can be painted. Here’s some ideas

You are very welcome Mairead, I recommend thinking about your taste, lifestyle and the rest of your home. To avoid the larger tiles looking very clinical the coverage can be kept down.Colour, lighting and more can also help. Large tiles like this are very popular. Many say that they make the room feel larger however that is not always the case if only one or one and a half tiles fit within a space. On the other hand, the amount of grout that requires cleaning will be reduced. I concur mostly with your original idea of utilising left over timber finish tiles, timber can be relaxing and timeless and tends to hide footprints also. This can also ensure that the rooms are connected through the same material palette. Our gut instinct is best along with expert opinions.
