Dining room curtains

Help me here.. I’m picking curtains to match the rug since we aren’t ready to just buy a new table and design the room around that. We painted a muted gray/blue in our dining room which goes nicely with the rug but I’m struggling with the curtains. There’s four styles on there now lol far left is floral gray/blue, second in is ivory/cream floral with muted colors, third is whiteish/ivory, and last is navy, which are my son’s but place holders for something similar to the example picture I posted. Thanks in advance!!

I like the idea of the navy floral but wonder if the navy would be too dark with your carpet. On my screen, the two florals you have up are very similar and look drab, the white/ivory looks stark and the navy looks too dark. You might want to try an off-white/beige to match the light colour in your rug or your chairs.

A Roman blind is a good idea or curtains that hang outside of the window recess when open to allow maximum light to pour in. Whichever you choose, make sure they are hung high near the ceiling to make the ceiling feel higher up. What do you use the conservatory for? Is the door in the second photo the main entrance into the room? Would the table fit comfortably nearer the window end of the room instead? Then the sofa could go to the other end of the space - not sure if it fits. It's hard to see how the layout works from the photos and without the measurements or a floor plan. Alternatively, would the sofa fit it you turned it so that it faces the centre of the room rather than the window? I'd hang the seaweed mirror above the sideboard or behind the sofa (depending on final layout) and change the floor lamp to one which reaches over into the living space. Also, you need a much larger rug for the living space. The mirror and art are hung too high at the moment. After the layout is decided then you can think about maybe using wallpaper on one wall. Links online? It's hard to advise with out seeing the exact colours, shapes and styles of any of the furniture or the rooms. Ideally we would also be looking at how much light the rooms gets! White is always great to pair with grey so without seeing anything I would recommend white on the walls and then a nice warm accent colour like orange or a warm rich purple or navy blue. Will be better to come back with pictures when you have some.. And we can look in more detail. :) all the best

The Persian rug is lovely. We have several (sitting room, study, hall, bedroom ..... they're a bit addictive), with fabric using a couple of the colours in each for stuff like cushions, curtains etc. with neutral walls. I agree with minnie about the patterns. To get the right colour combinations, at a reasonable price, you could find a company that does a range with the colour or colours you're looking for and then look for remnants on ebay, to get them at bargain prices. That's worked well for us. When we moved into the house where we’re still living knocking the kitchen and dining area into one room was the first thing we did and I’ve never regretted it. That was 27 years ago. Several years later the utility room was knocked through so it gave a larger kitchen. The utility became a dumping ground and the kids and husband dumped their bags on the worktop in there leaving me with no worktop for the laundry. Another good decision as it gave a big square kitchen to allow an island. I don't think you will create 2 separate living areas though if you don’t do it. The kitchen will be the adults domain and the dining area will may only be used when eating. The kids might prefer their bedroom or the lounge so I wouldn’t think along this line. Smells go wherever they want to. If your dining room is next to the kitchen they’ll go in there anyway so I don’t think I’d worry about that point. Having one large space makes it so much more sociable. People can sit at the table or on a sofa and chat to you while you’re cooking. For me it‘s a definite knock through.

Hi, Aw! I really like the Navy Floral curtains options but it would be very helpful to be able to see them combined with your carpet or how it looks in your room! They might look one way in the store photo and another whole way in your house!
