DADO RAIL IN ARCHWAY

Please can somebody help me. I have an archway into the kitchen from the dining room.

The joiner has put a dado in the dining room but has slanted it. I will attach pics later.

Can a dado rail run into the archway or stop in the dining room. Pics to follow shortly. thanks in advance for any help. joan

What do you mean by slanted it?

My sister in law has an archway from her lounge through to the dining room. She has a dado in her lounge and that’s where it ends. Nothing in the archway and none in the dining room. Hope that helps.

Choices choices- its a real tough one. I would LOVE to do one whole colour but my partner draws the line there, he says it will look like a corridor. I really like picture 2 of yours Ki and the top colour in the 2nd one of yours Hampstead looks real nice (black?). I find it hard to tear myself away from dark blues and we have had a mid grey (City Break I think by Crown) in our last house. Im just torn. How about Off Black by Farrow and Ball- will that be too much? Would you keep skirting and dado rail white or paint them the dark colour too?

I'm a big fan of using bold colour on walls so if I'd seen this post last year before you'd chosen the floor tile I would have said to go for your original blue idea. However, I think the lovely tile you've chosen has all the colour you need. In this case I'd keep the walls a simple off white all over as suggested above and pick out the colour in your woodwork, e.g. the front door, skirting and architraves (but not the dado rail which should be the same colour as the walls). Some painted furniture, like a console table, and artwork that reflect some of the floor colours will then pull the whole scheme together.

Hi woodster1987, Traditional paint brands have paints for walls & ceilings as well as wood & metal. Paints for walls & ceilings are available in matt finish and sheen finish. Matt finish, depending on brand and range, could be non-wipeable, wipeable and washable. Those reflect little light, upto 8%. Sheen finishes (Soft Sheen, Silk, Eggshell) are best for kitchens and bathrooms as well as stairwells and hallways and light reflection upto 30%. Those are durable and washable finishes. Paints for wood & metal are "made for purpose", and come in Satin, Eggshell and Gloss durable finishes with a higher sheen. The least shiny is Satin, the most Gloss and High Gloss. Last decade those were mostly oil based, but today most are water based and low odour. There are some paint brands that provide matt finish for walls and wood, but those shouldn't really be used in kitchens and bathrooms and high traffic areas. Please note, whatever finish you choose, no matter what paint brand you use, the old woodwork must be sanded to add "key" - and undercoated before applying finish coats. Are you London based? Hi my parents just moved into their new house . Dado rail in living room but as you can see the wall has a curve and the rail doesn’t. Lol what’s my options here ? Can you buy bendy dado rail or can a joiner put another one up that’s done in a way that it doesn’t look daft ? Thanks in advance

Do you mean he’s cut the dado at 45 degrees so it tapers at the end?
