Sorry for my delay in responding to your question! The white sofa pictured was a vintage Raymond Waites piece that I purchased years ago that was still in good shape aside from the fabric. I had it recovered -which completely transitioned the look of the couch from traditional to modern - and incorporated the leather couch. I wanted a leather couch because we have animals and it is the safest fabric to use with them so we just went with both. I really love incorporating older pieces with newer ones. Hope this helps!

Perhaps I should have explained this in my original post but it was all said as banter... as innocent joking. Me and the previous owner shared a similar sense of humour and telling him was done in regards to a joke he made about how they will probably turn out to be worth more than his baby's new pram. Obviously it was not done to gloat or be malicious, it was all said jokingly. He's also aware, as am I, that there is no way he would have been able to sell them on second hand for even half of their original price... especially with them being so ugly. I personally have always loved this style of sofa. Once we have decorated they will go wonderfully with my old sewing machine and my 1960s Welsh dresser. It's a bit of a niche yes but sadly some of us really do love the old fashioned grandad look. Most of you may think they are hideous or ugly and that I'm an awful person who deserves them however isn't this why we are all here? To share our tastes and ideas? To support one another and give tips? Honestly, I didn't expect to get a verbal bashing about how ugly my home, sofas or even my personality are... I believed it was fairly apparent that it was written as a funny post but as I said, perhaps I should have explained properly. I thought we were here to help each other with our homes, I hate my new home in it's current state and was very reluctant to post photos but believed it may be of use. I doubt I will try again. Sorry to offend you all.

A real game changer for this room would be to bring the colour round the room. Then you could choose a bright colour for the sofa's. I'd second the idea of a pink or coral sofas. Mustard would be good too. The light fitting needs to be wider. It could be a really stylish focal point. Also I would pull the sofa's out from the wall and add a curved table. More curves would be good for this space. Check out the Laing & Eimil Allegro Sofa on Housology's site. Also think about the low level lighting. You can not have too many lamps.

Thanks everyone for your ideas. That's great and really useful. Like the rug ishanson. It's looking like either a neutral (but contrasting against beige carpet) or a colour based rug would work equally well, depending on personal preference. We have double doors from the living room into our dining room which has black & white check curtains - photo shows the view through. I'm wondering whether a black and white/ivory rug would connect the rooms together from a design point of view? Saying that I think a rug that pulls the colours together would look good too.

Hello LJ, Congratulations on your new home! Absolutely love your style and the soho house you are inspired by! I also love the soho style so your post really resonated with me and my style. I have put together a moodboard for you, it is similar to what I would give my clients at design stage in a project or as part of my low cost online interior design package that I offer. It is SO brilliant that you are recycling your beautiful chesterfield and reusing it in your new space! I agree with Sonia that a navy velvet sofa would look lovely with a tan leather sofa. I thought I would give you another option here of recovering it with a burnt orange/terracotta linen or cotton. If you wanted something a little more lixe a wipe clean velvet would also work in deeper orange/red. A neutral sofa would work really well next to it and keep the room feeling bright and not too dark and moody as they have done in soho Mumbai. You could also include different tones of green if you wanted to/have space for additional furniture. Your idea to include splashes of gold would be perfect! Gold accessories/side tables with the green and terrocota/red would give you the warm rich aesthetic that soho Mumbai does so well. Love the idea of adding texture and a more casual feel to juxtapose the rich tones with a natural rug layered over your beige carpet and baskets to store logs next to your fireplace. The rug will also separate the beige and the neutral sofa so the two tones do not meet. Panelling would really elevate your space especially in green … it would look fantastic and bring out the colours in your beautiful cushions - they are really special!
