Furniture Living Rooms Home Decorating

hello, moving in to a large penthouse , pic of the living room is here. just bought a new teal colour sofa, need to but few more sofas, any suggestions which colour sofa and how is to be placed in there.
any help will be much appreciated.

Hi Zeeshan Bhat, congratulation on moving into what seems like an amazing space!

My advice would be to try and colour match the sofa you just bought with the new ones or buy the additional ones in a neutral colour. I am thinking grey here, but it depends on so many other things such as the overall colour scheme, finishes, fabrics, what other items you'll bring in the room etc. This will also depend on what activities you want to undertake in that room. For example, will there be a dining area in this room as well? Or a TV area? Reading Area? Open study? Everything need to tie in nicely together so that the room feel pleasant to be in.

As the sofa you just purchased is a statement piece in itself, it would be nice to have the other pieces in a simple or plain shape and texture so that the room doesn't become too busy. Alternatively, you can match the model and have 2 or 3 sofas exactly the same, for a more continuous look.

If I may ask, why do you wish to buy more sofas? Do you have visitors coming over often? If that's the case, then it would make sense to buy them (needing multiple seats for your guests to sit on). Otherwise, what do you think about armchairs? Or additional stools that can be stored away and brought out when you are hosting an event? From what I can see in the picture, the living room looks spacious and you'll enjoy a lot of natural light, which can only increase the feeling of space. Having more than one sofa could reduce that feeling and make the room seem small and crowded with furniture.

In terms of position, it would be great to see the floor plan of the room and see if you have any restrictions and best points of view. From what I see from your picture, there can be a couple of options, but I feel that you may have a potentially amazing view during the day, so you should definitely face the sofa towards the windows (on the long side) and enjoy the view. :)

I would definitely look at karndean then and have it in the hall, living room and kitchen. You may not need soundproofing but would check it out. I would also think about that end kitchen wall if it isn't structural, it doesn't seem practical having to walk through the lounge to put shopping away etc. In terms of colours I would go with white, greys and navy, maybe with pops of yellow/mustard. I'd keep most of the walls white but would look at feature walls too ( difficult to say without seeing pics) and add the colour in the furniture. I'd go for a contemporary look with a little industriał or scandi. In terms of the kitchen I wouldn't have any wall units, just white base units either side with a large island (in dark grey?) down the middle with stools and pendant lights for entertaining. You should easily be able to fit seating at one end. Living room, I'd add a large dining table (maybe a trestle or refrectory table with a mix of industrial and mid century chairs) along the end wall with the fireplace by the kitchen. We would also echo what Shelley has said - what a fantastic renovation and great that you are breathing new life into an older building. The demand for grey, doesn't seem to be abating, in fact it is heralded by many as the new 'neutral'. This is demonstrated by the clever use of the grey herringbone in the kitchen as a background palette along with the white walls which contrast beautifully with the wooden door fronts creating a new modern look.

The Persian rug is lovely. We have several (sitting room, study, hall, bedroom ..... they're a bit addictive), with fabric using a couple of the colours in each for stuff like cushions, curtains etc. with neutral walls. I agree with minnie about the patterns. To get the right colour combinations, at a reasonable price, you could find a company that does a range with the colour or colours you're looking for and then look for remnants on ebay, to get them at bargain prices. That's worked well for us.
