I would like to find out where the table is from. I love it and it is perfect for our remodel.

Hi there, It's a lovely space and I am sure there are lots of options as mentioned already by Karen above. How would you like to use the island? Is it more for the aesthetic or do you want it for people to sit / perch at? Islands tend to lose a lot of storage if you want people to be able to sit at them, which necessitates the need for more wall cabinets etc but if you can use the 'back side' for more occasional items then the wall restrictions may be less of an issue. What sort of style are you thinking of going for? Open shelves can look fabulous and a great way of storing items that are used day in, day out. They can also be very budget friendly in comparison to wall cabinets. Have you considered banquette seating for the table, opposed to using all chairs? It tends to be quite space saving and quite versatile too. Best wishes Claire

@clairef09 - I would never tile the chimney breast as the external corners would be an issue unless there is a ceramic/porcelain corner piece. You might consider using stone as you can then have mitred joints, however the cost is a consideration. With painting you can change the colour whenever you please for a relatively low cost. As to colour I would go for one that is a favourite of yours.... or shade of. Personally I like the duck shell blue colour ranges but this really is something you should stamp your mark on as you will be living with it. You can always buy some small sample paint pots and then choose... :-) I also find that art can be used very effectively to bring warmth to a room and the question then is whether you wants something that makes an "interior design" statement of those which reflect your personal taste. Seeing as this is the room that you will spend a lot of time in I would go with the art that you love to look at.... for me "interior designer" art is best kept for hotel rooms and commercial spaces. I make these last comments as I wonder whether you used the long horn cow posters to make a design statement, or not?

Hi @Ribena Drinker, We donate paint leftovers and sample pots to those who need them - art students and families in need. We're environment-friendly company and so we hate the word "waste"! We only work with water based paints (unless requested otherwise), we recycle all empty tins at source, we donate leftovers and segregate work-in-progress rubbish as well as use dust free sanding where possible. We like your idea @Ribena Drinker and we would be extremely happy to paint a whole bedroom for a family in need, this includes ceiling, walls and skirting and door frame. And this project would be even more exciting if: 1. The property is in London. 2. @Ribena Drinker would find the suitable family in need and refer them to Paintforme. 3. Online consultations – do you offer them and what tips can you share?

I did my first online design consultation way back in 2010 or 2011 for a client in New York State, which seemed very exciting at the time. But I wasn't happy with the the technology I had access to and how it limited the quality of the service compared to my in-person version, so I stopped offering that and stuck to in-person. But at the end of last year I decided to go back to offering a less location dependent service and invested in a bit of tech - webcam and tablet, so now I use zoom with a screenshare and have a design briefing process that my clients work through before we talk. It's now just as good as the in-person workshop and I'm not sure I'll got back to offering an in-person version even once we're able to. I can do everything else, bar the measured survey without a site visit too, so I'm now taking projects through planning and building control stages with all client meetings done online using zoom. It's also handy that you can record zoom calls too, so you have a record of them if needed.
