Tile near window sill question

My husband thinks this tile job is done wrong because there is grout between the tile and the window sill. He wants me to get the tiler back to fix it. Please help me understand how backsplash should be done when it's near a window sill. Thanks!

that is the stool (interior sill) apron and you cannot mount it over the tile.

So, is it appropriate to have the grout line there between tile and sill then? It does not need to be caulked?

Hi. I don't think it is necessarily old fashioned and it is practical, especially around a sink and looks way better than just having a little patch of tiles above the vanity! Also, if you already have the half-tiled wall, replastering all the walls will be necessary if you decide not to have tiles (as xtine74 said). I'd tile to the ceiling around the bath/shower and end it at the end of the bath near the toilet and then go down to the half-tiled wall you already have. I don't know about your style, but here are a few pictures to look at that will hopefully help you decide: Oh, and I wouldn't do a big wall cabinet over the loo....they can look a bit clumsy and are hard to reach. How about a few hooks down that side or open shelves and then have a proper cabinet under the sink that goes from the window wall to the sticky-out bit on the other side of the sink? (PS I'm with you on not liking brown and beige in a bathroom.)

It will have a dark blue black shaker kitchen with suspended chimney extractor on cables and wood effect floor. I’ve seen industrial style kitchens with both crittall and wider bifolds and they both look nice. I would go with bifolds for the cost now because we have a max budget to spent on the house to ever get our money back (it’s not that we can’t afford to do what we want as such but you don’t want to throw money away!) even though I love the Crittall BUT it’s the practical side that we can’t agree on now

Could the builders remove the wood trim around the window and the window sill, tile and seal it, and attach a toughened glass 'door' (for want of a better term) on hinges that covers half the window from the shower side. The hinges would allow you to be able to access the window area easily for cleaning and the glass door would protect the window from any splashes. Being only halfway across the window, the door would not interfere with any ventilation you want from an open window. OR// I know you said you don't like shower curtains, but it depends on how much you want to spend ;). If the shower head is attached to the left hand wall looking at the window, you could just tile further up the walls around that area and install a curved shower curtain rail that shelters the window and the floor around the bath.

Thanks all for your comments! And sorry Sonia but the island is full of pastel coloured houses, would make me feel a bit nauseous to come home to one every day (assuming we ever go out again). Husband has vetoed anything darker so Downpipe will probably stay, but like the idea of painting the external sashes the same. The more minimal the better, from our POV. In other news our proposed plywood floors are reportedly the first on the island, so we'll be making a statement if nothing else!

P.S. He thinks the grout line is too wide, that the tile was cut too short and needs to be redone.

grout and calk are two different things. the tile can be close together, because tile shrinks and expands at the same rate. the calk is between the wood sill and tile, and needs to be a bit larger between the wood and tile

as tile and wood expand at different rates. Tell him to relax.
