Slide-in electric range with no lip

I bought a slide-in electric range to put in a new island with quartz counter top and the range does not have a lip on the sides and rear. How can I seal the range to the counter top?

Slot in cookers and ranges aren't designed to be sealed in, they're designed to be able to be pulled forward so you can clean up all the stuff thats fallen down the sides and back due to the gaps that you want to fill in, (crazy isn't it), there should only be a small (5mm gap but this depends on the worktop and if its gas or electric) gap on the sides. i suppose you could see if anyone could make some metal angled strips that are magnetic so you could stick them to the sides.

Hello Becki, So here is a shot of said board over the sink. It's not perfect as I didn't plan it to start with.... Ideally it would need a lip at the back so it doesn't dip. There are various ways of mounting the sink.. so depending on how you do this affects how you can situate a board over the top.. Front is fine as it slides and sits on the front of the sink.. I usually sit the board next to the hob as I put pans and things on it which is useful... With any other offcuts.. I made these into chopping boards.. cut to size rounded off the edges with sander. I stack them all 1 in front of each other.. Really useful way of using anything that might be going to waste... It doesn't have a sheen as it is not treated... I don't oil my chopping boards but wash and dry quickly.. Vegge oil could be wiped over with a cloth if you want to... : ))

I think you should plan your kitchen much earlier. Firstly it might affect some choices with the building- like electrics, lighting, internal door positions and extraction. You should also consider what type of kitchen you want as some will take lots longer to arrive- for example if you wanted a German kitchen this would likely take 8/9 weeks to arrive, this could be more for certain finishes, some European manufacturers close down over the summer so you may need to factor in a 4 week August shutdown too. Lastly I have seen lots of debate on this forum and many people spend significant time getting the right layout, your kitchen showroom will need a little time to process the order and overall the time between first visiting a showroom a having a kitchen delivered could be 18 weeks. If your builder starts an 8 week build in October then you will need your kitchen at the end of November which means (including August shutdown) you need to start planning your kitchen at the end of June, although there is no harm in looking now.

Hello There are a couple of things to consider here : 1. The defects liability period on your project . This exists even if you carry out the works under a JCT Minor Works contract and the period last between 6 to 12 months after the project has been completed ( practically completed ). The builder will periodically come back or at the end of the period to rectify latent defects . These may be cracks in walls, doors jamming , issues with the plumbing that were not apparent at the time of completion. 2. The builder may or may not give an additional guarantee for the works but if he does it should be fully outlined in writing and can range from 12 month onwards. If he is offering this it is best to clarify if its underwritten by an insurance policy or its just his word. As contractors do sometimes go out of business . 3. Warrantees and guarantees on components of the design and their anticipated life expectancy . These can range from warrantees from installers or suppliers passed onto the client on, but not limited to : a. Bi-folding doors or sliding glass windows or roof lights b. Kitchen installations c. Boiler and plumbing installations and heating installations d. Electrical installations e. Flooring systems - natural or other wise f. Roofing installations e.g single ply membrane systems can come with unto 18 year warrantees h. White goods i Sanitary ware J. Waterproofing or Tanking systems for basements k.Others The issue to be considered is that not all products on the market are warranteed and the ones that are are likely to be slightly more expensive. One way to approach this is to: 1. State or ask about the life expectancy you require for certain elements of the project as part of your tender ( Note : That the life expectancy of a good quality product is usually 2 to 3 time the warrantee period given.) 2. State or ask about the sensible warrantee periods for the products, systems or elements of a building required. One can speak to ones designer and or architects about this and they can build this into the requirements of the pricing or tender documents quite simply Defining these aspects of a project at the outset or during the design phase can be viewed as a benchmarking of the quality you require of the finished product , which will also be a factor of your budget. It is quite important not to assume that all taps for example: are made to the same standard and have the same warrantees and or life expectancy. If left to your contractor, without some form of specification , it is more than likely that the elements being installed will be driven purely by price and not by quality or life expectancy. It is therefor important to understand once you have spent a considerable amount on a project what ones annual budget would be for maintaining it. As the monies that are saved on the build will often be spent on maintaining and reparing the project over the years. This is more prominent where properties are rented out or let and the durability issues are more prevalent.

I have a double Neff oven. Don’t really use both ovens at the same time so could have opt for a single oven. However, I'm not happy with it and wouldn’t have another. When baking it cooks more on the left hand side than the right. I also know several customers of ours who also have Neff ovens and theirs does exactly the same. It is infuriating when baking cakes to have the difference in colour. You’ve already sampled the Neff though and were satisfied with it. If I were to choose favourite manufacturers I would put Miele top of my list (and boy you pay for it, but their products are excellent). I would then rate AEG as a close second. Definitely in front of Neff and Bosch. I started out with an AEG induction hob which lasted the normal 8-10 years. Was a great hob. Replaced it with a Bosch one which wasn’t anywhere as good. As we are replacing the worktops I decided to swap the Bosch hob for an AEG again and glad I did. They have the edge in technology IMO. While it’s not the hob you’re referring to I’m just explaining my preference for a specific manufacturer. We attend the kitchen exhibition show every other year at the NEC and have never been disappointed looking on the AEG stand to see what innovative ideas they have introduced to insert into their new products.
