Long dark living room area - how to separate dining living areas?
Comments (6)How about putting the chest of drawers under the window so it is visible when you first walk into the room. Then put the desk where the chest of drawers is currently. I would then get a large storage TV unit for the end wall where the dark furniture is. This would be best in white or taupe to keep it light in that end of the room. You could even get this made in the same units as the kitchen cupboards. I would buy new 3 seater sofas in a traditional or classic style to suit the antiques in a beige colour linen and then two armchairs in a patterned material - floral or stripe to suit your personal taste. I would keep the sofas in the same position and place the two armchairs facing the TV unit, side by side. You would need to make sure the armchairs were placed so they were easy to walk around and they would need to be small but comfortable. Keep the table where it is and update the lamp to a more statement piece. An orchid (fake or real) on the chest of drawers would add a touch of class. I quite like the rug that is there as it goes nicely with the antiques and you could bring out the blues with a few duck egg blue coloured cushions, and a duck egg blue roman blind would soften the window. Just some ideas.... I'd love to see photos when you've finished, it's a lovely space!...See MoreSofa(s) and or chairs Layout in Rectangulat living room
Comments (7)Hi, yes you would be looking at 2 small sofas if you had them facing each other. So the options you could have:- 1) Corner sofa with the L section being on the door side (presuming you want to keep your TV where it is) and the longest part away from the wall so there is a space to walk behind it. 2) keep the long sofa where it is and bring the smaller one around so it faces away from the windows (entrance door behind it). This will only work if there is space to leave a gap to walk through. 3) leave the sofa where it is (or bring it forward depending on how much width you have in the room? And put 2 x single chairs opposit each other in the same place it was suggested to have 2 x sofas. So it would be a C shape....See MoreLiving room: navy/cream/chocolate dilemma
Comments (1)What a great space to work with! I think the wallpaper would match well with cream or other neutrals you have within the kitchen. Are the curtains also brown?...See MoreNavy living room
Comments (29)Hello Laura, If you really want to keep the room lighter and on the brighter side, then paint the chimney breast and keep the alcoves a brighter colour.. With the addition of a mirror or something over the mantle you can have the blue impact but lightened with a reflective decorative piece that a mirror offers.. One other thing.. Navy is excellent with tan and elements of brass or old gold.. : ))...See MoreMaths Wife
