Need help for making my stair look nicer.

This stair was covered by carpet. We removed it, thinking to find a nice wooden stair under it, but we discovered that is not real wood with remaining of glue and the mosaic brown and beige we don't like at all ! Is it possible to fix ? How? Thanks.

You could replace the treads with a lovely timer that can be stained and tile the risers for impact. Other options are to paint the treads white and paint a decorative pattern on the risers or even paint a faux runner...if you search stair painting ideas in Google images there will be some many great options for you. good luck

Are the treads paintable? You could use a gel stain on the treads, which would give it a wood look. I would paint the risers white = classic look. Good luck!

A nice colour paint would look lovely. Plan to paint my new rather uninteresting shed (when it arrives) a deep blue with white trim and use terra-cotta pots for a nice contrast. I'll be using Sadolin Superdec opaque satin which comes with very good recommendations and is supposed to be weather proof for eight years. Getting paint from crown trade decorating centre, guy there even showed me pics of his painted shed using this paint. Also said they can mix to any colour, might be able to mix farrow and ball colours as well. Love the ideas for a little deck or patio at the front and a border to the side. I'm sure as you keep adding things or making little changes over time it'll look great.

Personally I think that the issue is that the pebbledashed section is too plain and this is exacerbated by the fact that the roof here is higher than the original plan. In my opinion the solution is to create some visual interest in this area. If both you and your neighbour is replacing the porch a taller version might help. Personally I think the pebbledash looks like a lower quality product than the rest of the house and painting it would help lift it (as long as the neighbour also want to do it as half done would look worse). Ideally I would put a tall thin sash style window in the pebbledashed section but I recognise this might be inconvenient inside the house- but it could be faked by adding a window surround to the outside to match the stone on the bay.

Hi Onika, Inevitably this will require a few external modifications to the house. You can have direct access from the reception room to the back garden, by installing new doors. Connecting the kitchen with this reception room will involve works to the structure. It's obvious to me that the reception room facing the street will become the study room, unless you want it to be facing garden. The utility room in the middle is not a perfect space as it's there to mainly connect the kitchen with the fourth bedroom. This can be changed with a small extension towards the garden. If the garden is big enough, you can always build an outbuilding that could serve multiple purposes from study room to utility etc. For a small fee we could develop the best layout for your study. I like your 70s house too from the photo, even your porch looks good, it suits the style of the house. Not sure that a country style or oak porch would suit, though they are beautiful in the right setting. You could search for images of 70s semis online for exterior ideas if your planning on doing a lot of work. A lick of paint and some potted plants should make it look much better though.

You could paint a faux finish. There are book on faux finish painting for floors.
