Hi. The sofa is fine. I'd just move the other sofa up a few inches/a foot so you can move the other one out of the bay slightly. Lighten up the sofa by adding patterned cushions in the other sofa and chair colour. Tv's look nice on sideboards so you can either add accessories on the sideboard or art to the ŵall so as to "disguise" the tv but I can't really see what it's stood on at the moment. I do think a coffee table would look also nice with accessories on to bring furniture into the middle of the room

Thank you for details. In general, location of areas is chosen fine, especially if you want to keep dining and kitchen separately. Although I will have couple of suggestions for you. I would consider more space for your dining/kitchen area. Make it wider and add at least 1m-1,5 m. You have double doors to the garden but you don't leave enough room to walk around table. It can be a nightmare to move chairs if you need to pass, even simply for the reason to open or close windows with curtains or blinds. Looking at lounge areas: two large sofas will look bulky, especially in the area, which you plan to keep neat and clean. It means it should be as functional (when you need it to be) as to be out of your way when you live your life. From here, I will recommend to choose corner sofa for your sitting room and a large footstool. It will allow you to have open look on interior and area will look larger, welcoming and you will have more seats for family hours.If you like armchairs, then have a look at next layout Second area doesn't need large sofa. A set of chairs will look much better and will be more functional. Yes this is exactly what I was thinking, thakyou for creating it in a much more professional package!! It may have been you who made the original suggestion to me actually Jonathan so apologies for dismissing it first time around! The more I've thought about it the more I think its a better solution, otherwise the current dining room will just be fairly redundant and we won't use all of the space. Also really like the position of the downstairs loo you've suggested, but suspect the budget won't stretch to that and its current position will be a compromise we have to accept....

Ideas for changing the layout of reception/dining

Would you entertain a partial floor to ceiling cupboard wall for coats and shoes (1.5m wide or 2.4m and shallow), opposite the lovely log fire, thus creating a partial ‘corridor’ through to the kitchen. You could put an upholstered bench seating on the other side and a table....or a sofa....or a desk I was then wondering if you put a doorway into your living room as you suggest behind your coat stand, would you then consider maybe a) having a formal dining area beyond in the sitting room, and, b) opening your double doors wider to have one big open plan sitting room, diner and c) your sun room becoming your office perhaps with sliding glass door if budget allows. For a middle room it is very lovely and bright. A radiator could maybe go against the stairs and/or where you have your mirror. These positions hopefully would help with not having to pull up your wooden floor. Just a few ideas to get you thinking....
