Pendant for a sloped ceiling?

I am ordering some lights for my new kitchen/dining room.
Dining table is actually under a sloped part of the ceiling, wired up there too.
Do I need a particular light fitting to put there?
I was looking at a light, but it has a metal rod attached to the ceiling rose fitting. I guess this wouldnt work, but I can still use a pendant light as long as it was just a flexible flex and didnt have a rod at the top, as then the flex can just dangle down? Is that right?
Suggestions, thanks!
