How should we rearrange the living room?

We are having the room replastered before painting and the fireplace is going to be changed. Sofas are going to be 2, 2 seater sofas. The huge window is opposite the fireplace but not directly opposite. It’s a really big challenge for me this one as doors tend to collide with where I would possibly place furniture. We have a big tv, lots of gaming computers and a tv box to consider.

It‘s quite a large room but difficult and the more I look at it the more difficult it gets.

I have been bashing my head against the wall with this room for sometime now and could really use some help, any thoughts are much appreciated, thank you.

would it make sense to close off one of the doors or do you need them both?

Both needed, one for kitchen other for hallway.

Wow yes lots to waken up to and I'm so grateful for the help! Thanks so much! I tried mforr to find one o those room colouring things for a shop here in the uk and whilt you can do it with dulux paint brand, it didnt seem to like my iPad so need to get onto it on my laptop! Having slept on it I'm thinking I like the idea of doing the kitchen only in colour, and then having highlights of the colour in the LR with cushions perhaps. We considered curtains too but I'm not sure if it would crowd the LR. We are sure that the coffee table is too big also, but I love it (it has a glass top and we can present things in the drawer below). We also have no dining table so this is our only space for setting out food! I'm still liking the green, but the yellow goes well too. We have a tea/coffee jars on our kitchen work top (might be just visible in the pictures) which are green yellow and grey, so if I bring these along to the DIY shop they could colour match those for me. (Along with the list you sent me too mforr!) I will def be back on to show you all the results!! :)

First of all removing all the stuff that doesn't belong in a living room will help. The living room feels like a closed off space because it looks so different compared to the dining room and kitchen. Everything is white and has a nice tiled floor. I would suggest continuing with this in the living room or you could put the wallpaper from the dining room in the living room as well. Having a floorplan would help when designing the space, but I'll try my best without a floorplan. Where the fireplace goes I would suggest letting someone make a custom cupboard. You can hang the tv on the space above that cupboard and make that the tv station. I would remove the sofa from the wall and move it closer to the "fireplace". Add a nice carpet and a coffeetable. Add a floor lamp and pick a different light fixture. If you want you can also create a seperate reading nook. I hope this helped.

I think you need a good quality general builder. Try to find one with several guys on the workforce so that there is a broad range of experience but you only have to deal with one person. I would get more than one firm around and look for local recommendations to help decide. The carport may require planning permission so seek the advice of your planning department at the local Borough Council. If your conservatory has a glass or polycarbonate roof it may not be thermally efficient to open it to the house. It may be better to keep doors to it from the main house or you could rebuild it to a higher standard. You should source the bifold door with the agreement of the builder that they are the correct size. Make sure you plan well and they arrive when the builder needs them. You should choose your own engineered wood floor and have the builder lay it. Best of luck

@rinked Thanks for taking the time to do the floorplan. But just don't think that will give us enough space as we do like to entertain a lot and don't like the thoughts of the living room being sort of all one open room. Also we don't really want to actually touch the current bathrooms as they were all been recently done by previous owners. not to be difficult : )

one sofa in front of window. TV to the right of the fireplace. other sofa to left of fireplace to make a corner with the first sofa. leaves room at both ends of the room for storage cabinets while keeping sofas focussed on both TV and fireplace. also visually squares off the room by creating a more square area for TV zone - have a rug under this area. this also leaves more circulation space around the doors.
