North facing living room colour
Comments (28)This is Little Greene Acre in our east facing living room. It definitely looks like a very soft green and although it is very calm and restful, I don't think it will look quite right with your navy sofas. It would, however, be perfect with your fireplace and would complement the tiles really well if you fancied recovering the sofas....See MoreWhat colour for a dark north-facing bedroom?
Comments (8)I don't understand what 'would be hard to live with' means to be honest. I also agree that advice on this subject is totally contradictory, which doesn't help. The colour of light in a North facing room is quite blue, so anything like a pale grey with a blue tinge will look even bluer. Some people like that, but I personally wouldn't, I find cold rooms depressing. If you want a neutral, then you go across the wheel and select one that is a bit warmer and has some red or orange in and that will create a colour that when combined with the blue light is a neutral. Joa's White, Dimity or colours like that, will look quite neutral in a North facing room. Another option is to go for a more saturated colour such as a yellow, as this can break through the greyness. If you go for a pale colour, then anything like a creamy green could look sickly, so a more definite green would work. If you go for a pale neutral then red based ones will help. I tried about twenty in my kitchen and drove myself nuts! 'Joanna' by Little Greene is a brilliant neutral with a tinge of red in it, that may be worth a look....See Moredark green north face living room?
Comments (14)I think you should go with what makes you happy. Don't be afraid of your own style. Try to choose a nice smokey pink and maybe instead of paint look at some wallpaper that has a little green on the pink that way it will be a softer and less sharp change from the dark green to the pink enabling you to add other tones and textures like natural leather and wood that way you have more options for your sofa colours. scatter cushions will break up the solid colour of a sofa and a mirror over the fireplace will mirror the wall paper opposite bringing it all together. there are some beautiful papers out there!...See MoreURGENT white & navy paint names needed for north facing room
Comments (43)Hi Tani. Mmmm. Mixing colours by hand can be tricky in large quantities which is why I suggested taking a small sample of your existing paint first and and seeing how other colours change it. For sampling you can use any acrylic paint (acrylic has similar properties to emulsion) as you’re just trying to identify which colour you need for mixing, could be other tester pots, kids acrylic paints, artists acrylics etc. but when doing the final mix I would use the same brand and finish paint. In theory (and from memory) to make a dark navy blue lighter and warmer you’d need more of a dirty peach colour then add this to the navy at approx 1 part peach to 10 navy then add more if needed. All a matter of trying and testing. Having said all this it may be possible to sell the paint you have now (after all navy is popular atm) and get another colour....See MoreUser
