what colur wallpaper (feature wall) and paint - (grey carper/sofa)

Hi,

Currently have slate grey sofa's and grey carpet with white walls in the living room.

Would like to wallpaper one wall (feature wall) and paint the other 3.

What colours will work with already having a grey theme (sofa and carpet). I do have little children so wouldn't mind something that contrasts well goes with the grey but a bit warmer and child friendly if that makes sense? (I don't want something that is boring). I am useless with what colours go well together (any assiatance will be welcomed).

Any thoughts?

Hi, photos of the room always help, so we can see the actual space and your style and get an idea of how light the room is. You can attach photos to a comment under here. Wait until they are clear before you hit submit.

Yelllow goes well with grey and it will warm up the room. I'd actually paint the walls a light grey, to soften the contrast between dark grey sofa and walls.

Hello missm61, Welcome! I had thought that perhaps you'd want to consider the rear wall a lighter colour.. So you are effectively having light at both ends of the room... With the middle and sides (opposite the sliding glass doors) a darker colour... Think you could afford to bring the sofas slightly further into the room... Possibly move the cupboard and smaller half to what will be the tv wall.. The tv could sit on the lower section without the need for the stand.... Keep it all really minimal on the shelves... You may be able to leave the two smaller pictures as they are and the large two could go in place of the large unit in it's current situ with the console underneath.. Cd rack could go on the tiny end wall that splits the living/kitchen (where 2 little pics are now) See what you think and possibly have a little move around before papering.. I think the darker bigger units would work with the darker paper.. You have a fair bit of floor space in the living room and the sofas need something to balance them.. Also the rear wall next to kitchen could then be more open which would add to the feeling of greater space there.. A few more ideas and suggestions that you may want to chew over... : ))

I was looking for advice on exactly the same dilemma! We have chosen Orla Kiely Giant Abacus for a feature wall in the living room. Grey background, cream petals with an olive centre. We have a cream carpet and cream leather suite with mid grey armchair and room doesn't have big windows, so trying to maximise the light. What colour would you suggest for the other walls? oh, I forgot to mention, the room receives plentiful off light in the mornings although not totally dark and gloomy on evenings. however if doors are left open, light is shed into the room from room behind.

Thanks Minnie, I will look for a couple of darker accessories to bring the room together. We loved the grape wallpaper and had it until recently, as we fancied a change. We haven't had the grey wallpaper long unfortunately, but it just doesn't look right so decided to have a redo. (This is the only chance I've got though so anxious to get it right!) We are upgrading to a bigger TV, but it's still in the box at the moment! Hopefully the electrician who will hang it on the wall will be able to fit us in this week or next, and then I can decide what to put above the sideboard and piano. I know the TV will be wider than the TV cabinet but unfortunately we can't change any of the furniture. I'm hoping to find a way to make it look more balanced maybe by placing something on either side of the TV cabinet like plants and/or lanterns. Here's another photo of the wallpapers up on the wall - I'm maybe leaning towards the left one, as I like the textured look - might be longer lived than the patterns? I'm not sure.
