Crittall style room divider

Hi! I’m trying to get a glass divider to our new house with open plan living area. I‘m not sure yet about the measurements but probably it’ll be 2500 high and 1500 wide. I’ve contacted some companies but it’s extremely expensive. Do you know someone/company/way of doing it cheaper? Please help...

I don’t know any suggestions, but I wonder if it would be cheaper to get a local carpenter to make them in wood and paint them black, or buy ready glazed doors/dividers and again paint them? My brother used Jeld-Wen a lot.

Thank you for your help! The thing is I would really like it to be metal .. or aluminium.. I was already considering wooden one with my partner 😞

Hi Alan, we used the same doors from for our little study. After the decorator had painted them & we removed the protective film from the glass we saw that the paint had bled into the inner frame. Unfortunately there is no way to remove the glass to paint the inner frame so that section will always remain untreated & ours looks worse because of the paint bleeding. Such a shame because from afar the doors look great....just don’t inspect them too closely! When we queried it with the decorator he said the film was there to protect painting errors whereas the big shed said it was there solely to protect the glass & that the decorator had used too much paint on the brush. Fiona - I’ve been looking into replacing some doors with Crittal style and have contacted loads of suppliers and companies. The one that I’ve been most impressed with is the company mentioned above by Lou Valdini - Merlin Windows in Yorkshire. (I’m in the East Midlands). They gave me a competitive quote really quickly and then I got a quote from the fitter mentioned. (They fit across the UK and they link in with Merlin to ensure timings etc). It’s likely that we will go ahead in the next few months. (Just need to convince husband as he prefers chunky timber 😂)

It will have a dark blue black shaker kitchen with suspended chimney extractor on cables and wood effect floor. I’ve seen industrial style kitchens with both crittall and wider bifolds and they both look nice. I would go with bifolds for the cost now because we have a max budget to spent on the house to ever get our money back (it’s not that we can’t afford to do what we want as such but you don’t want to throw money away!) even though I love the Crittall BUT it’s the practical side that we can’t agree on now

How odd. I logged on to post a similar request for internal Crittal Style doors - then found this.

There is a long-running thread here: https://www.houzz.co.uk/discussions/4493163/ that might give you some pointers to potential suppliers. It concerns external doors but I am sure a lot of the companies will do internal screens as well.

I looked at a company called Aluco https://alucoaluminium.com at the Homebuilding & Renovating show at the NEC and their internal doors looked quite nice. But they don't manufacture the doors themselves so you would need to contact them to find an approved retailer.

Occasionally screens come up on eBay so worth keeping an eye out. There is also a manufacturer who always advertises on there but not sure how much cheaper it works out.

using Sonia’s suggestion you can paint wood to look like metal. I know you don’t want This finish but just an example or I think you can just Hammerite or rustoleum
