When curtains go crazy
Comments (5)I want to go bold but since drapes can be such a big expense, I also want to go timeless and versatile. If I had plenty of $$ to change them every so many years, I'd definitely go crazy. But sadly I don't. I'm having custom window treatments made and I found it to be just about the most difficult decision of all the decisions I've made in my home so far. I had 2 rooms done by Calico and was not happy with their service or process. Now I'm waiting on someone I found through Houzz and am hoping I can show them off when they're done - whenever that is!...See MoreA kitchen that drives me crazy
Comments (3)I love the work top, like this sort of real world dilemma too. The fridge is an ungainly focal point. Could you swap it with the cupboard next to the cooker? The wall units are too high, and the different sizes are distracting. I think I would paint the floor units, white would blend in the white goods, but black or grey would make it seem intentionally unfitted. The baskets on top of the cupboards add to the distraction. It isn't terrible though, it is light and airy with good workspace, and it looks clean and practical, sometimes we only see the problems in our homes, I think you have made a good working kitchen without spending much money, and should be congratulated for that....See MoreIt's crazy but it might just work...
Comments (17)Thanks for the kind comments folks, I feel the decisions we are making on this house are very 'ours' and can be quite 'marmite' :D. That's a lovely room Forza, I think it looks great as an accent wall as you have other interesting stuff going on surrounding it. Ours was a box with one way in and out so I think we got away with the single dramatic colour. Is yours Drawing Room Blue as well? I know what you mean about being scared :D Minnie101, 2 years in and we have completely done 4 rooms now (library, study, guest bedroom, dining room) and refreshed 3 (en-suite, master bedroom, main bathroom). It's the biggies that are left (Kitchen, living room, hall, 4th bedroom - aka cinema room and the little 5th bedroom). The kitchen needs a complete rebuild due to the bodgery so that won't be for a few years yet. I may give it a coat of paint just to make it look less dreary. The living room needs a radiator moving which means taking the ceiling down in the cellar. Again, needs saving up for :). The hall is a massive job as due to the architecture, there is no easy place to stop half way. It also joins to the cinema room, so need to think about how those rooms work together. The original hall tiles need fixing and the horrible UPVC front door needs replacing. Beans on toast for us over the next few years and I may be able to get it done :D...See MoreAdding Cabinets to Kitchen - Genius or Crazy?
Comments (10)I don’t think it’s a crazy idea, very smart if you can find a close match. Even if the carcasses are slightly different, you (or a carpenter) can make up some doors to match your current ones. I like your latest layout. Personally, I’d move the stove to the right of the sink (where the toaster is, put the ovens in the island with some drawer for pots, pans, baking stuff. That way you can reduce the cabinetry around the fridge, and centre it on the wall with 2 narrow tall cupboards (40cm) either side. Great for a pull-out pantry. I think this will zone the areas a bit better. Cooker and ovens close together, pantry and fridge close together etc....See MoreT Gray
