10cm - where does it count more?

So I started the week really disheartened as Planning permission was refused.

It seems there was something wrong with the calculations; the council won't say how they got to the numbers that they did; something about how a calculation is done when there's a further pitched roof to an extension is calculated as part of permitted development... so 50.3 cubic metres.

A slight reduction somewhere is needed to bring this under the 50 cubic metres

Option A reduce the height of the pitched roof to the side extension, or

Option B reduce the width of the dormer slightly, by 100mm maximum, so 50mm each side.

Current dormer height is 2.3m - not keen to reduce that.

Appreciate thoughts on where you'd be happy to lose 10cm ...

Thanks!
