Renovating Design Dilemma Kitchens

Original vintage 1950s kitchen

Hi all,
We have an original Qualcast Fleetway Connaught kitchen, ironically blue, since painted yellow. Sloping front, glass panels and a whole kitchens worth. Anyone know anyone who specialises in these and are interested in buying them?

Because your needing to save some money for the project: I'm thinking unless your in a great area, your possibly putting too much into higher end elements and features. Because after all it is still a semi detached bungalow and your not planning to stay forever. If I was downsizing, I'd be after more living space. But of course you could have the option of using the larger bedroom for a separate lounge. If you were considering that option I'd leave the fireplace there. I think the finished house is still not enormous so I think 2 entries are sufficient. If your sure you need a separate utility, I'd look to combining the WC and utility. I have never priced up windows and doors in the UK but I'd expect that you could go double glazed and maybe even consider (everyone's favourite :I ) a not so ugly version of the plastic windows, if they exist. All the elements and the plans look really nice (except the smallish living space), but to get it into budget I think you'll need to downgrade some of the more higher end elements. There was a bunch of high end elements to my house that I renovated that was really a waste of money. For example, I sprung for a lot of beautiful aluminium framed windows, way more than I really needed, but they looked great in the design. So then I ended up with a really hot glass box which I had to spend even more cash to control the light, privacy and heat. Good luck with it all!

Like that idea. We originally thought about having the wall out and pantry taken out and putting the kitchen that end and having a dining are the end where the kitchen is at the moment. It would be a really big area and would be lovely but we have had some ridiculously high quotes so don't think it's really worth doing it, so just trying to think of ways around it.

I also like the wallpaper. If it were my kitchen I would clean up the look at it is currently more tatty than retro. I would paint the ceiling a very pale grey and the walls a dark grey. A new lino will help clean up the look. Personally I wouldn’t try to change the tiles because I don’t think painting tiles is generally an improvement. But I would paint the cabinets. A sunnier Jaffa orange would be cleaner looking and wall decals might give them a temporary retro lift.

Sorry I haven't read the comments (too many) but if you are considering keeping them, I'd send them off and get them dipped. If they come back in one piece then go from there. It may be they come back with a lot of damage, some panels may need to come out - but you can always update with fluted glass panels etc. If they come back and were full of filler etc and bad condition then sand, fill, sand again and paint a dark shade. You can make them look beautiful if you want to. It may be they come back in good condition! In which case you can stain and keep natural. I'd probably replace all the hardware though.
