Hold out for the dream or make do and mend?,

So would you rather settle for an ok house (let’s say a 1960s detached 3 bed no en-suite, very small upstairs) and have more money in the bank and just make the most of what you have with a very small mortgage or stretch yourself and get the dream old cottage in a lovely village with money tighter but you very much have always dreamed of a character home?

1960s and accept your dream isn’t happening

Being a Dane too, I always feel that hygge is part of every day life. For example.. at the moment we're going through a major kitchen reno and have no water on ground floor of house plus cooking on camp stove. In the midst of all this dust, madness and general craziness (with two small children) we still have lovely tea lights lit every day, enjoy a nice coffee and afternoon snack as a family etc etc. I'm amazed how the works has all of a sudden cottoned on to the word 'hygge'. Those windows look great Claire ! This kitchen design looks ok - but if you are opening up the windows into a bar then echo that with an also slightly unconventional idea perhaps - using a BORA induction hob - which can be fitted ( unusually - but the manufacturers say this is ok) in place if the sink under the window ... the hob itself has a built in extract system - so no extractor needed - and allows you to keep a flatter surface there and entertain your guests by cooking for them while they perch outside ! By moving the sink to where the hob area was allows you to take the DW out of the corner to the end of the run so it's easier to load and unload without being in the way. Climbing plants - including evergreens although not Ivy - can successfully be used on buildings and can look beautiful. My two top tips would be to choose the plant well, make sure it is fairly low growing so you can control it and secondly erect wires using vine eyes, tensioners and wire so that the plant has a definite framework to grow on and you can keep it away from windows and doors. We use the Gripple system shown below.
