Best colour to paint kitchen cupboards?
Our kitchen has a blue granite worktop. Ideally I was hoping to paint the cupboards a dark blue but now I think this might look strange with the light blue worktop. Not sure if I should change the worktops completely to white or whether there is a cupboard colour that would work with the blue worktops?

3 years agoHi there, agree not that easy to see. I have attached another photo. The walls will be painted in Wevet grey so everything won't be so blue!

Comments (6)Hi. Personally I like the look, maybe not for everyone but it can give a feeling of space. I'm in the middle of painting literally everything in mine the same colour and now I've found the first pic it will actually look quite similar in style and colour! What style and colour of kitchen are you having? Are you having a splashback? if so what colour etc as it can break up the space ( I have tiles which will be coming off although I don't mind the ones in the 2nd pic). Comments (1)The only way you will know costs is to have a few quotes from painters. My friend had her kitchen cupboards repainted from a golden wood to palest cream and it looks fantastic. Comments (13)Hi Tricia. I agree with the other comments that painting kitchen cabinets is a lot of work and I don’t think you would be better pleased with the end result. Some cabinets can take painting better than others. For a different idea you could extend the wall cabinets almost up to the ceiling by either finding extra wall units or if you’re handy with diy creating them yourself. Then replace doors with some mdf panels which you can then prime/paint yourself (see pics below for the kinda thing I was thinking of). Mdf doesn’t cost all that much but if you’re not confident with cutting or drilling hinge holes then a local joiner could do this for you. Wouldn’t normally recommend painting tiles but if it’s just short term then it’s maybe worth a try. 3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoDo you have dark blue clothing items, towels...? Something similar to what you're thinking of for the cupboards. You could hang that over a kitchen door/hold it up to the worktop to see if a colour like that would work.
I think dark blue or dark grey can work beautifully with your worktop. You just have to find the right shade.
The red blind isn't really working with the kitchen colours, I think I'd take that away when you're deciding on a colour. Are you planning on painting the walls? The wall colour reflects in the worktop, so maybe paint them white?
The dark colour is Hague Blue, the lighter Inchyra Blue (both F&B). I mean, we're looking at them on our screens, so they'll be different in real life, but it will hopefully give you an idea

3 years agoI think pale grey or taupe would look fab and it will keep your lovely room bright. Love the worktop. Farrow & Ball do some beautiful taupe and grey shades. Whatever colours you like, get match pots and paint them on A4 card and place them on the worktop at different spots so you get an idea of how the shades work with the worktop, rather like Carolina’s idea. Here’s a couple of pics. I don’t know the colours but hope it helps.
