Heating new hallway

Just starting renovations and planning on taking a wall out that is directly opposite front door to create a nice big hallway to rea of house as bit weird at moment as you go through what is being used as an office at moment to get through to back of house (moving office elsewhere).

Picture below shows current setup with two horizontal radiators, setup is fine at moment in terms of warmth, there are no radiators in upstairs hall:

Picture below shows wall taking out and whilst shown as nothing in picture there will still be 60 cm of wall above the opening. I have put dimensions of downstairs hall in BTU calculator (w 355cm, h 265cm and l 570) and comes out at 3320 BTU's - this does not take into account the upstairs hall dimensions or space going up the stairs. I was going to stick a 600/800 horizontal radiator on the chimney breast shown in blue. Could also add a second vertical radiator show in yellow. What confused on (due to complete lack of knowledge) is because there is still 60cm of wall at top across new opening if any heat will escape that room and into hall near door and up the stairs or will I be superheating the bedroom above which is already a warm room.

There is no good place in hall to stick a rad as there is under stairs cupboard and light switches on wall opposite stairs that are in good position. One option I have is to put a slimline vertical rad such as https://www.bestheating.com/milano-...nection-designer-radiator-various-sizes-92162 which is only 23cm wide in the position marked red that would add couple of thousand BTU's into the mix - would prefer not to as seen directly when you walk in door although not sure if will be too cold otherwise.

Guess question is can I just get away with the blue and yellow rads given there is still 60cm wall above the wide opening.

I think you would be better having a radiator in the stair well as well as the old office (as an alternative for the office radiator, have you considered opening the fireplace up and putting a nice radiator into the opening?) Could you add radiators on both sides of the new opening? Or at the bottom of the stairs? Maybe move the under stairs cupboard door if needed?

Many thanks for comments, have cupboard under the stairs that would be difficult to give up as it offers tons of storage. The heater on the other side have considered but would mean making that piece of wall bigger as has the light switches on at moment and also bit tight at that point as stairs extend into the hall a bit and would decrease clearance into the room next to it although doesn't seem to be an ideal setup.

We have these lights in our hall and landing. They are simple but sparkle beautifully and are very reasonably priced considering that you need four. Thanks for comment, that is the part M regs was reading last night but now been reading some more think this covers disabled access so for upstairs wouldn't apply and I think (could be completely wrong on this part) for a renovation of an old property (ours 1950's) then as long as not making it worse then okay but I can't find this actually written anywhere official just on forums. The furniture comment is bugging me though and will go in loft today and speak to structural engineer as taking out the little bit of wall outside airing cupboard and maybe shaving a diagonal bit off other wall as goes into new hall will make things much better.

In reference to your comments Keiblem, a ‘parred down’ look will be more suited to the space with minimum investment due to the property going to market in a few years. However, my concern with tiles are that they can present a safety hazard, and particularly in a hall where you come in straight from outside when it has been raining, there is a potential to slip on the tiles and inevitably fall over. I would never suggest a rug either, as once again, can present a precarious situation! The dark wood I have suggested was based on a preference for a darker shade of flooring, and equally the herringbone pattern is still so on trend and is timeless; also it’s easy to clean and slip-proof. As there is also some warmth in this flooring, it presents a more welcoming space,as if it were just all grey,could look rather washed out and without character. Buyers buy with their emotions...

Or you could mount the radiator underneith the staircase with vents concealed in the risers to allow it to vent up?
