Kitchen floor plan - what can I do?

This is the existing kitchen/breakfast room/utility layout.

I want to keep a utility, and thinking of taking out the pantry and making it a larger utility/boot room. There are stairs in the corner of the current breakfast room that will stay.

I would love to get thoughts on the best layout for the rest of the space. Few things to consider:

- We want to take out the wall between kitchen/breakfast room to make it one big space.

- The red i've added is to show double doors we plan to add as it leads to our outdoor eating area and i want to be able to open the kitchen out to this.

- I want an island

- Ideally like a dining table in the space (we do have a dining room, so not essential but good for casual eating or small dinner parties so we are all together when cooking).

I feel I'm losing ideas as i've looked at the floor plan so much, and would love to see if i'm missing some amazing ideas

So kitchen and breakfast room opened up, what size would that room be? 3.6 m X 7m? Is that the doorway into the kitchen in bottom right?

How many do you want to seat in this space?

Would you want stools at island? If so, how many?

Do you have an idea yourself?

I realised i hadn't included the exisiting kitchen space size, so updated the layout to show it.

Dining table seating, ideally 6

Stools, I'd like 4

My thought is to keep the utility and pantry but open to one large space.

Kitchen wise, keep it as it is now (more or less), but instead of the wall being there, add the dining table here. I feel we are quite limited on what we can do as its a narrow but longer space.

Personally I don't think you will gain much extra space by blocking up either opening and if you were to open up the kitchen through the hatch you might get more light but you will create flooring problems. I think many people would also want to see an approximate floor plan to provide a more definitive opinion. From what I can see I think that you keep a similar layout but perhaps move the sink and hob further apart to create more work space. I think modern cabinets will help it feel more contemporary- given that it is a small space with no window I would choose a handleless kitchen with integrated appliances and have cabinets, work surfaces and splash backs in the same pale colour. Modern lighting will also help.

Hi Louise the layout of your space looks great. Time to entertain!! regarding the lighting layout, I would consider -pendants above the island -downlights to the main areas of the kitchen -under unit lights to the high level cupboards (linear led works well) -pin spot downlights (such as Eiger) above dining table and some twinspot (such as Eiger 2) to the lounge area and possibly some picking out art on the main walls -add some 5 amp sockets to the dining and lounge areas for table and floor lamps If you can, have 2 circuits per area so that you can really set the mood. Below is project with similar aspects so that you can see how we have zoned the lighting to suit each area. Hope this helps and good luck with the project.
