IKEA kitchen fitter needed

Hi all,
I’ve got my heart set on an IKEA kitchen for a new space built as part of the renovation.- the design is beautiful, smart space storge is excellent and the price is a Godsend. But my builder is totally against it - doesn’t think IKEA do good, sustainable kitchens.

Therefore I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a IKEA kitchen fitter or feedback on their IKEA kitchen? That could help me with my final choice of kitchen.

I’ve never dealt with IKEA kitchens although I know their kitchens and wardrobes are cost effective, but you get what you pay for. From recollection (and I could stand corrected here if things have changed) their units are non standard sizes which means in the future if you want to just swap the doors you won’t get a standard off the shelf door but have to look for made to measure.

My son’s friend is looking for wardrobes off them and they are constantly out of stock so if they have the kitchen you’re seeking I would get it while you can.

You could post on a local Facebook page asking for fitters. Many post similar requests in my area.

have a look on bikbbi.org.uk all the installers have been vetted and must work to a minimum standard, guarentee etc and another place to look is bark.com where you can advertise for the work and its emailed to installers who could be interested

Our new kitchen was Ikea and we spray painted the Ikea doors with F&B. Our builders customised the kick boards and made tailor made tongue & groove end panels and infills. As colourhappy says you get such a lot of space in the cabinets, not to mention some nifty in-built storage options, to make the most of the space. A lot of folks are sniffy about Ikea kitchens, but I think they're long lasting and good value. The money we saved on the cabinets & doors, we put towards Corian worktops and Neff & Fisher & Paykell appliances and a Quooker tap.

We had an Ikea kitchen installed in 2018 and we are absolutely delighted with it and have had no problems - it was installed by our usual general builder/carpenter. He was impressed with how well they cabinets went together. The Ikea internals are second to none.

My mother had one in her house that was put in in the late 80s and it was still in good order, when we replaced the kitchen in 2010 to sell the house - with another Ikea kitchen.

People are quite sniffy about Ikea kitchens, but I think they offer a much better product than what I've seen in Wickes (and had) or Homebase.

I have an Ikea kitchen too. Fitted in 2014 by builder renovating my kitchen/diner. Came with a 25 year guarantee on units. No issues so far, except I had to replace sink unit after a leak, and builder didn't do a great job of fitting the solid surface worktop.

I agree with all of the above comments. Ikea is incredibly good value for money and they do invest in design. The carcasses go lower than standard ones, so you get more room inside the cupboards and they appear lower to the floor which looks good. As they are deeper, you need to get non standard worktops so this is worth thinking about. They hang on rails on the wall and then the front legs provide stability, my carpenter was very impressed. The only negative issue I found was that (certainly at the time) we had to use one of their own integrated dishwashers as other brands didn't fit. As this is the case, go for the best quality dishwasher they do, not the cheapest. I would get a good carpenter to fit it and expect it to take quite some time. There are lots of companies doing Ikea hacks such as making doors form formica ply etc. Also some good ideas on instagram.

IKEA have recommended fitters. I had my current kitchen fitted by one. Call your local store - I’m sure they’ll tell you more.

IKEA are offering installation with the kitchen. But the waiting list is extremely lengthy- at least 8 weeks. I was therefore trying to find someone independent to expedite this so not to delay the project. But I’ll contact my local incase they do have local fitters to recommend- by chance do you still have the details of your fitter that I could possibly try? (I’m hoping you live in London 🙂)

8 weeks for the fitting time is good. We as a company are on 12-16 as are many of the contractors I know. Snap it up.

I’m in Bath and I think the fitter came from Devon. It was a few years ago. But the store organises it all for you - they allocate a fitter to you, as far as I remember. And yes I’d agree with Daisy that 8 weeks is probably quite good going at the moment! You may need to live on microwaved meals for a few weeks while you wait…!

We’ve had one for the last two years. Husband built the units and carpenter fitted them. Impressed by quality. Something to be mindful of that may be a con about making and fitting: items turn up in hundreds of boxes (guess this is determined by size of kitchen) and backs of the units go back further, which can make fitting difficult if there’s pipe work to work around. On the plus side this gives bigger usable cupboard space.

A builder fitted our IKEA kitchen a few years ago and was very negative about it prior to to us ordering it and tried to push us towards Howden’s instead. After he fitted it he confessed that he had been extremely impressed with it and said it was one of the nicest kitchens he had fitted.
