Island extractor - flush to ceiling vs downdraft?
Comments (40)Hi there. Looking for some related advice. We''re also ordering a new kitchen and are trying to decide on an extractor. The only issue is that the ceiling is about 3.25-3.5m high so everyone keeps telling us to have a bulkhead over the island as a ceiling mounted extractor will be inefficient otherwise (we're told a height of more than 1.5m above the hob is the maximum; ours will be about 2.2m...). We really don't want anything hanging from the ceiling over the kitchen island as it is in an open space and will ruin the whole open plan concept. Do you know of any flush ceiling mounted extractors with motors which are strong enough to work at that height? Currently looking at Falmec, Sirius and Frecan but would love to hear your suggestions. Comments (39)my thinking was the table could be pushed flush with the island the majority of the time leaving a gap to walk past of approx 140cm. Thats with a 110cm gap between island and units, 90cm island and 90cm table. Or if you rotate the table and have it pushed with one end against the island, a 120cm table would sit 4 and leave 110cm to pass which is the same as the gap between island and units. If it was an extending table it can be rotated 90 degrees on the rare occasion more seating is required. Yes, it would mean it would probably close off that side of the room but if it's not a daily occurance? Comments (18)Hi arc3d, The front of the house faces the north and this small “in gable” window faces west. It was originally created to bring light to a dressing area (the now proposed kitchen/pantry area was initially designed as master bedroom/dressing/en-suite, with living spaces on ground floor) but probably has little use now. Ceiling height of the space is 284cm; staircase leads up to loft where we plan to have our master bedroom and another living space with large glazed dormers at the back of the house. We are still in the pre-planning phase and no work has been carried out yet, i.e. all old walls remain (shown with black and interrupted lines in the floor plan), but the architect sent us some 3D images to better understand the end result. I believe they will produce full 3D plans after we receive pre-planning advice and we are in a position to finalize plans....See More

2 years agoHi Alan, the way you want to do it .. the best option is to use our round wall vent. So go from the oval ducting … convert to round and then go into the round vent
