Do up house...What colours and furniture
Comments (13)Pale duck egg type colours are amazing for being bright during the day but deepening by lamplight. I can recommend Craig and rose's 'porcelain blue' which I've just put in my bedroom. Possibly similar to the F&B colour mentioned above but definitely more to the blue side. As above, it changes through the day: in early morning it is nearly white, then a cool light blue, then soft warm duck egg with a definite hint of green, and in lamplight in intensifies to a richer blue. Divine colour! I'm totally envious of your living room. It is stunning! It does look dark but be wary of trying to go too light and bright. Old houses with low ceilings and cottagey windows are unlikely to ever be scandi-style light, so think vivid colour instead of pale tones. However, I do wonder if a lot of the darkness in the living room comes from the carpet. I wonder what's underneath it? If it's floor boards that can be sanded or painted to pale you may find the room will look instantly brighter. Team that with pale tones in furniture and bright colours on the walls ... In all honesty, I think you'll end up with a stunning room no matter what with that age and character (but I'm a historian, so I would say that!!)....See MoreHow would you renovate this old mill?
Comments (23)We bought an old Mill house 4 years ago and are still decorating and renovating. I think we always will, but absolutely no regrets! I love it! I will confess that I have made a few mistakes, which we are now fixing, as we now know what we would like and what suits the building. I completely agree with the comments on lime plaster. All of the rooms are light but soft colours and I have fallen in love with Crown and Rose Authentic Chalk paint. We have dogs and I love the way that I can clean off any small tail wag splatters and the paint looks brand new afterwards. We have lots of beams and stone, so have decided to go for a rustic but comfy look, but with a few rather French looking items, like a big French dresser in the dining room. Light walls in soft whites and creams, which don't clash too much with the different stone and woods types. I have tried other colours, but it just doesn`t really look right and ended up going back to the neutrals. These houses have low ceilings and small windows, so keeping light was an important issue for us. The colours come from the cushions, throws and soft furnishings in sage greens and warm purples. The dining room, looks stark but rustic and interesting. Currently would like to find a large rustic wood or antler chandelier for above the table. Floors downstairs are currently old school quarry tiles in half and wooden floors in the nest, with a cheeky bit of rhino vinyl floor in the main hall. The quarry tiles are original, but long term, I would love to rip up the wood/vinyl and add in flagged floors, so been bothering our suppliers about how well under floor heating may work with flag stones... :) Upstairs is thick underlay, as when they built houses in that day, they didn`t really worry about sound travel, then carpeted. Best move I have ever made!!! Even when things go wrong, I don`t really care, as I am renovating for the love of it this time, not for money! Exciting times!!...See MoreWhere to get chinoiserie wallpaper without costing a fortune?
Comments (44)Hello Anastasia, I hope you are well. I love the Cole and Son hicks hexagon too and it does look absolutely stunning on the wall. The quality is great too. Both designs will create a WOW and look fabulous and the hall is the place to do it. I am sure you have seen images of the cole and son on the wall too, but just in case https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=image+of+rooms+decorated+with+cole+and+son+geometric+wallpaper&espv=2&biw=1093&bih=494&tbm=isch&imgil=8LqsJQOcPudg5M%253A%253BwlC-0FV3Fxc_4M%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fblog.decoratorsbest.com%25252F2014%25252F04%25252F15%25252Fhow-to-incorporate-geometrics-into-every-room-of-your-home%25252F&source=iu&pf=m&fir=8LqsJQOcPudg5M%253A%252CwlC-0FV3Fxc_4M%252C_&dpr=1.25&usg=okQdK7Jo5A1VFQC8_dFO-7hFb1s%3D&ved=0CD0QyjdqFQoTCN2RpeG-4sgCFUu6GgodfmkBhQ&ei=PVgvVp3_Acv0av7ShagI#tbm=isch&tbs=rimg%3ACUFl7bjpaTieIjhXpxNgsMi79sglGLWntIgdhrNU2mUeh3BoK3NLI_1gDNMJEJCk-BXjpxGiOvfBIRTbCv9-FSWO63ioSCVenE2CwyLv2EZQrGxa4SLHpKhIJyCUYtae0iB0RMsoVXlZ677UqEgmGs1TaZR6HcBHb_1cdQJl0rQSoSCWgrc0sj-AM0EV6UvYKLKQJXKhIJwkQkKT4FeOkRSfNNvI6LJzoqEgnEaI698EhFNhEfbeYBDDIvSCoSCcK_134VJY7reEQnc8dWFW42Z&q=image%20of%20rooms%20decorated%20with%20cole%20and%20son%20geometric%20wallpaper&imgdii=c0Ed3CWKFAuTM%3A%3Bc0Ed3CWKFAuTM%3A%3BR9DSGwjh_uNiyM%3A&imgrc=c_0Ed3CWKFAuTM%3A I am a real believer in being brave and going for what you love in your home..... go with gut:-)...See MoreFeature Wall Colour
Comments (13)HelloLinda That mirror is amazing. I can definitely see why you bought it on impulse. I think I would have done the same. Have you thought about using a dark colour on the wall, such as Brenton Blue? Brenton Blue is a lovely deep and intense colour that will create more of an atmosphere and statement in the room and make that mirror a focal piece on the wall. As you can see in the image above, this stool really pops against the dark background. You also mentioned that your style is 'modern and simplistic with clean lines' so I thought I would show this image below for some inspiration: In this image, we have painted all of the walls white and have painted very simple lines around the artwork to make them stand out and pop within the space. This is an idea I thought that you might like to try. The use of bright colours really captures your attention and draws the eye to these pieces. An alternative way to achieve this look would be to change the colour of the mirror frame by painting it. For something a little more wow, yet still modern and simplistic, why not try a paint effect like in our image below: This paint effect and colour would really make your black lamp and grey mirror pop. Here we have used Easter Morn 4. This is a lovely shade of yellow that will add a touch of warmth to your hallway. This paint effect is really quick and easy to achieve. Check out our Dulux YouTube page for some great tutorial videos on paint effects. You can also download for free our Dulux Visualiser App which allows you to pick a colour and by using augmented reality, you can see that the colour would look like on your wall in your actual space. here is the link to download the app for free: https://www.dulux.co.uk/en/articles/the-dulux-visualizer-app Good luck with the decorating - we would love to hear about how you get on and what you decide to do.
