What floor plan would work in this bedroom?
Comments (23)I drew up to scale both rooms and actually like the larger room. I don't know how to show you the lay out. Thanks for the dimensions. (I had to convert to feet since I'm an Amazonian). Anyway First, draw it out on graphic paper instead of hauling the furniture around, it is so much easier. Normally putting the bed at an angle takes up so much more room that I often can't do it but in this case it works, in my opinion and looks great! So, as you enter room in area to your left there appears to be just enough room for your wardrobe. Then as you stand at the bottom of your bed put the right hand top corner just in about the middle of the window angling it towards the door. It won't be a ful on 45 degree angle, just enough to position your dressing table against the left wall. I put it about 21 inchs or 2 feet away from the wardrobe. Whatever works for your doors. This still gives you a little room to manuever , for making your bed, to the left of the bed when needed.. I would place the dresser across from the table a couple feet away from door opening. This is all tight, granted but looks interesting and spacy to me, at least on paper. The bed corner in the middle of the window gives a sense of planning and simetry. You actually could do the whole wall in a sheer but also could just dress the window maybe in an up down interesting shade, bamboo or something textural and if you want a soft swag at the top in a great fabric to pull some color up to draw your eye. You could place a tree, (ficus, maybe), or something architectural or sculptural, tall behind the headboard. Use your vertical spaces, anything to draw your eye up. Put a tall mirror at your dressing table. You really even have room with this arrangement to have a pretty good sized round table on the right side of your bed and even a tall, 12 inch deep by 2 or 3 feet wide bookcase a foot or so away from the window wall on the right side of your room. If you do things to draw your eye up, the room will feel more spacious instead of focusing on the furniture area. I'm loving it. wish I could fly across the pond and help you! good luck!...See MoreBedside lamps wanted but what size and style?!
Comments (15)Thanks all and sorry for the lack of response! E D: on the curtain fabric I was thinking of something like velvet or similar but as you say cotton may fold better...I am going to a fabric shop tomorrow so will have a good look at what they've got. Sarah: thanks for your suggestion, really like your choice!! But yes something with a shade may be better for our room... Ribena: drape and pool is exactly what I was thinking off thanks!!! And it had passed through my mind to have some cream wooden slated blinds also so just have the curtains for dress. Minnie: liking your suggestions...still very keen on curtains tho. As we Have space it would probably work better as you say to move the bedsides away from the bed a little. Will do some experimenting!! Also love the chair idea!! Hadn't thought of that but definitely nice to have a chair in a guest room :-) Gina: thanks v much also, liking those lights! Definately needs to be something minimal as you say... Really love these but not quite as willing to pay the price!!! a lot of food for thought! thanks all :-))...See MoreColour palette for mahogany furniture?
Comments (25)Have you considered Benjamin Moore Barren Plain? It’s a near neutral colour which sits just into the Yellow Hue Family. (See the colorography below by The Land of Color). It sits well with the richness of the mahogany colours. But this colour would need to be considered & sampled within your space in order to see the effect of light upon it. This is because all low chroma (near neutral) colours from this section of the color wheel are prone to shifting purple in imbalanced light. They aren’t purple and don’t have purple ‘undertones’, it’s just a phenomenon of light and context. However in a reasonably balanced light, they will look just as their color notations in the colorography describes them. Worth a thought,,, Good Luck with your colour quest! 🌈...See MoreWhat would you do with this bedroom?
Comments (10)Hi Ceri, I will agree there is too much blue in this space, Although those chest of drawers and the bed still look in good condition and has potential to be reused in the space. The inclusion of a shaker-style wardrobe seems like a lovely idea as well. I liked the color of the walls, would suggest going with the same color as the other walls for the shaker cabinet to not let it stand out. For the wall behind the bed, a deeper blue ( if it has to be blue) will go well with the dark wood furniture. I would definitely introduce a complimentary color into the space. A mustard yellow or a dusty pink shade would go really well in the space. I would also suggest planning the space out since you are taking out the mirrored sliding doors, you would want to find a place you could hang a full-length mirror? Maybe the TV Unit could be wall mounted. You'd also want to think about the artworks hanging in the space, they seem out of proportion. The chair in the corner looks a bit too crammed on there. You probably only want a bedside table? Since you're doing the Ceiling, I would suggest having the ceiling design with an inbuilt curtain track for a sheer and solid curtain. It looks much smarter and modern. Also makes the room visually taller with the floor-to-ceiling curtains You might also want to increase the no of ceiling lights and change the pendant light. Since you're also planning to change the flooring, I would suggest going for a grey ish oak flooring and not a natural oak one to pair it well with the dark furniture And the Last suggestion, I would have painted the inbuilt cupboard, side of the doors the same colour as the walls. as it stands out a lot . I would also paint the interior of the doors atleast same as the room colour or something darker ( like two tones darker than the existing wall colour or a grey ish ) as the stark white doors stand out a bit too much and will stand out with all teh dark furniture and moody vibe in the space. Hope this was helpful. Good luck with the decoration :D go really well....See MoreRichard Hayden
