Is it possible to do? wall mounted bath tap on external wall

Hello,

the bath in our renovated bathroom will be under the window. We would like to have the tap wall mounted, just below the window (exactly as the picture below from a major bathroom supplier). However, this is the external wall of the house. Our house is made of bricks, from the 1930s.

Is this possible to do on an external wall ? I am questioning where do the pipes go...

Advices would be greatly received! thanks

Have you thought of having a waterfall tap installed either on the bath rim along the back of the bath or on a corner much easier to install. Here is our bath

Hi - I can’t say for sure, but the plumber might be able to board that wall and gain a small void to sink the pipes into. (This might also give you a small shelf that could be useful). If you didn’t want to lose any space, another option would be to get a bath filler that fits onto the waste outlet. I have a grohe one that’s brilliant (I hate the look of taps!). Mine is controlled via the same valve as our over bath shower (on a wall). If you don’t have any wall space at all, there are other brands that have the controls built into the filler itself. My WCs were tiny and had a totally cute tiny sinks in each. Villeroy and Bosch make some, and you can maybe get creative and add a DIY one downstairs at least. I did find it inconvenient to not have a toilet by the bathtub, especially since the nearest WC was a half-flight below on the stairs landing. I lived in a quirky self-built post WWII house in Germany, that was originally two small units, one on each floor with both toilets in the stairwell! All the plumbing was original. My landlord sold it after we moved out and I bet all the character is gone now. No appreciation at all for MCM in Germany, although modern style is very popular. I wish I could have carted home the tons of cool MCM stuff I saw by the curb as the younger generation took over. Still regret leaving the mosaic 1950s coffee table, but it weighed a ton! If there is no assistance to maintain Edwardian style houses in Scotland, are there any programs to help improve their energy efficiency, short of replacing the windows. Studies in the US have shown that traditional wood windows can be almost as efficient as new replacement windows with proper maintenance and a storm (inside or outside). Hi. I agree that the space saving stuff is nasty. As well as being ubiquitous, it looks cheap (overly fussy cabinet doors made out of something plastic-y... I don't understand why someone hasn't designed something better). Anyway, wall hung units look sharper and it is really easy to clean the floors. Also, provided the door doesn't bash into that unit, you can fit just as much in two deep drawers than you can in three skinny cabinets. That said, assuming we are looking at the longer wall you have (196) then I would move the toilet over more toward the pillar (the pillar doesn't look deep enough to interrupt the actual bowl of the toilet) and get a 90cm vanity and sink in there, flush against the wall next to the door. I have a bathroom of almost the same width and I have a round mirror above the 90 cm vanity so it isn't shoved up against the wall and have a wall light either side of the mirror. There is plenty of room around the loo and there is ample storage (I have a freestanding cabinet that has little legs and two cupboard doors and a sink mounted on the top so that my tall partner can shave and brush his teeth without all the evidence going all around the bathroom).

Hello, it's just the tap style I like in that pic. I'm not going for a coastal theme!! I'm looking for a period range to include wall mounted taps, freestanding bath filler and exposed valve shower. I have had a good look on eBay but it's finding a brand/range that I like that includes all those things. I will have another delve around eBay tonight. I'm also going to Aston Matthews plumbers merchants next week with my fingers crossed...!

If you are having wall mounted taps, then the wall has to be chased out to allow for the pipework, so, as you point out nothing will be on view or accessible. Thus regardless of whether or not you then tile, and you had a problem with the plumbing ( maybe not the tap itself ), you would have to dig everything back out. We had Grohe Wall mounted taps and have just changed them for Burlington as we are upgrading the bathroom. We never had a problem. It's a risk you take.

No problem at all to chase the pipes in the wall, the brickwork will have plaster of about 15-20mm already so its only a shallow chase into the brickwork (no more than 1/3 thickness of brick thickness is allowed for wall chases), then clip and lag the pipes, you also need to fit isolation valves that are accessable and try and minimise the amont of joints (most leaks come from joints). also has to be in line with taps in the 'safe zone' preferably vertical but horizontal is allowed.
