Last year we took part is this radical remodelling and completely transformed this beautiful SW London property.

The house now features a large structural glass rooflight, that allows light in the kitchen and outline the beautiful authentic brickwork. For the external doors we decided to use Crittall Windows Ltd products, that are fabricated with high quality steel, which makes them extremely durable and eco-friendly.

Between the kitchen and garden we installed 3 doors, that when fully open and create a smooth transition to the outside space. To run a perfect symmetry, we used Crittall for the basement area as well.

Hi Catherine, unfortunately the property is end of terrace and the adjoining building is towards the left so no windows on the side with the two reception rooms but I like the interesting ideas - Thanks! OnePlan - wow - I like it - that's a great plan! I absolutely love the idea of removing the lean to and extending the building with a glass roofed extension. Great work - I love it! I did also think to add an extension out the back of the property - about 6x7m extension to use as the main living area of the house as it gets a lot of light. I've attached a basic drawing below of how it would be situated. I would like to add skylights and concertina doors to let as much light into the house as possible. The garden is enormous so am happy to lose this space as it still leaves a huge space in the garden. I am just conscious that I may be blocking some light into the kitchen/family room. I wonder how I could get past this. Another question would be around the upstairs... I've attached the plan for the upstairs as I have no idea how we would redesign this.... bedrooms 3 and 4 are fairly dark and narrow... the landing is also very dark as there is no natural light that can reach that space so considered light tubes from the roof. My only problem with this was that if I wanted to convert my loft in the future, this would cause problems. I do need a 4 bedroom house... I need three bedrooms, one guest room and ideally two bathrooms but can live with one upstairs and one downstairs. Any ideas would be massively appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help. Rom

Thanks for the comments so far. I'm kind of thinking there's a hybrid option that isn't 1 or 2 and will probably cost a fortune, but until I find that solution, option 2 is definitely what I'm pulled towards. Oneplan, to answer your questions specifically: - The house is built on two floors - just three double bedrooms uptstairs. I'll be putting a small bathroom in upstairs as part of the project. - The "lobby" area is a vast overstatement on behalf of the estate agents when they were making the plan. "Pantry" would be a more appropriate word. Our builder mate suggested making the Pantry into a small shower and WC and converting the current downstairs bathroom into a utility room. - My kids are 4 and 5. - I haven't actually measured the porch up yet, although see comment below. - Regarding the question about the extension size. I borrowed the dimensions from a plan already submitted to the council for an exact same sized house (plans submitted before the govt relaxed planning rules). This size works because the garden is not so big. If I make the extension any bigger the garden will be really too small (and I want at least some space for the kids to run around in). Moved from a lovely 2 bed flat in Ealing to a 3 bed Victorian mid terrace in Hitchin in North Herts on the train line into Kings Cross/Moorgate in 2011. I struggled to leave the city but our town is v lovely and unique for commuterville in that there is a lots on offer on our high street both for shopping and entertainment. That said, we've sold to move a little closer to a big city again. Moving 10 miles north of Brighton later this year. I love our house and the space but after 5 years I feel I need more than there is on offer here and once we leave this town, it's a 30 minute (usually more) drive minimum to get anywhere with more on offer. I'm a city girl through and through and though I can no longer afford to live in one, I need to be close to one. Space is great, but think of what you do with your spare time, though it's pretty fab for where we are, I feel I outgrew this town of 35,000 people in less than 5 years.
