charcoal carpeted living room

Hi need advice on living room furniture!

We just moved into a new place, and bit lost what color sofa and dining table will match this carpeted room…

The thing is we don’t like super modern feel and want the living room to be warm
and cozy (we love Oka style) Also it has a beautiful chandelier and kind of ‘old’ looking engraved ceiling.

Ignore what I’ve used but i think I’d look for a rug with terracotta and grey/blue tones in. i do like the sofa, very Oka (Bluebell from sofa.com and this colour was on offer!). I tried painting the walls (did’t plan on painting the ceiling!) and it was meant to be a clay like colour with some yellow in,

Add a large plant, table lamps and a floor lamp for a cosier feel. I’d add some dark wood for the table or chair legs. I wasn’t sure if you needed a round or rectangular table as can’t see the door/s

Thank you everyone for your great suggestions. I don't have a lot of money I'm afraid so can't really splash out buying everything new. My bedroom is Mauve with light grey accessories which I love but I don't really want to copy that in the living room. I do think a carpet would make the living room warmer as its quite a cold house. But would that mean more grey (for carpet)?! As comfortable as the sofa is, it was probably not my best idea as its limiting choices. I just need to decide on a completely different colour or light grey and light grey curtains. I like the geometric suggestions but maybe in a white/silver or the peacock blue wall. Also I had one of the side walls yellow at one point but got bored of that too. Thanks again for all your help.

Hi. I must admit the carpet looks fine in the photo but if it's grotty I would just get one rug. I'd go for something in a beigey colour as white will make the space feel smaller. Can you move the sofa away from the curtains just even a couple of inches? The throw is lovely but perhaps try it folded over the arm? I might also add a couple of lighter cushions, either something with the moss green or the bronze that's in the cushion. I'd also accessorise the coffee table ( include flowers or a plant for some greenery) and add art or a mirror over the sofa if allowed. Do you have a photo of the existing light?

I would have a go at persuading him to give the wood a try, referencing all the opinions on here! A rug really adds a sense of coherence to a seating area, as well as warming your feet up and helping with sound insulation. Even if you went with the carpet option I would probably still recommend a central rug for your room to lighten/brighten and tie your colour scheme together. If I had to choose a carpet I would probably go for a natural wool colour which would be really neutral, look good with all the other elements, but then also use area rugs to lighten/brighten, centralise the furniture elements and balance the colour schemes in each room. This natural wool carpet from Jacaranda Carpets has an interesting texture, and a mushroom tone which goes well with your wallpaper and also has tinge of blue grey like your living room walls :)

Depends what kind of wood you are having in the main room. If it's mid or dark colour and a little bit rustic then that works for a hall too, as long as you won't mind if the odd scratch appears over time. If you're having something very light or smooth in the kitchen I would be cautious of having that in a hall as dirt and marks will show much more. In that case I'd choose tile.

I assumed you’d put the carpet in as it obviously looks brand new. Could it be re-laid in another room or given/sold to family or friends? just thinking you won’t be so guided by the carpet if you want warm colours? Wood would look lovely or a warmer coloured carpet perhaps with texture if that’s what you prefer? The other option is look at the original floorboards, mine are only exposed in one room upstairs so can’t really comment on the level of draughts as I guess it differs quite a bit to downstairs. I know it seems slightly wasteful but as you’re buying all new furniture I think that’s what I’d do if the carpet can be re-used… You can definitely shop around for things Oka like (or find the exact thing if you’re lucky) but I’m a big fan of some of their cushions and lamps/shades and they’re not cheap so personally I’d spend that extra on the floor to get a room you love!

Unfortunately we rented the place, so can’t change the carpet! When we were viewing the house, there was a beautiful beige jute so looked very airy and warm.

And our existing furniture is all grey and black…so really doesn’t suit. Love the idea above terracotta, red highlights, cream sofa! Do you think adding green is too much? All existing sofa cushions are green and we have lots of plants :)
