external insulation in conservation area

I wonder if anyone has experience installing external home insulation in a conservation area? I wonder how straightforward it is to get planning permission. With energy prices rising, I’m keen to install some form of wall insulation to my home. I know councils can be very particular about changes to the outside of buildings in conservation areas, but also feel like there should be some flexibility especially if changes make homes more energy efficient and environmentally friendly
