Position of extractor fan

We want to install ducting for a new hood extractor fan in our basement kitchen. But the obvious place for the exit to the outside is close to our neighbour's front door. Obviously, we don't want our cooking smells to be a nuisance to our neighbour (although we have planning permission, and our drawings do show the extractor in that position).

Any suggestions?

Thanks all, this problem has now been sorted. We are having a flush ceiling mounted extractor whcih fits neatly beteen the beams. This will be in the centre of the kitchen ceiling (rather than 'almost' above the hob to one side of steel beam). It has an extraction rate suitable for use away from hob so ticks the box for building regs. The ducting can run along the joist, through the bricks above the steel beam and then will be boxed in along the beam to the external wall. This beam is already being boxed out to accomodate the soil pipe from upstairs running the other direction. This way I get to keep my island free from hanging extractor, pop up extractor and get to keep the full drawers below hob. We are so relieved to have finally settled on the right solution for us. Thank you for your comments Sara. It may be the way the photo was taken that makes it look off centre. I have had replacement cupboard fronts & doors etc. The old cupboards had brown on the edge - the picture before shows this. The fitter put new edges on so the cupboard edges matched. This took up about 6 cm in total.. I was originally hoping for a glass extractor but this fitted so its what I have got....... I personally don't really like it. I just wanted to get some more opinions before I complain & get it changed but for what I have no idea

I’ve never had a fan in my bathroom. I just open the window when required. Never had problems with mould etc. Go figure…….

I would look at tons of images online to see what style of mantle you like. It depends on what style the rest of your kitchen is and what your preferences are. You can do whatever you like basically but I would advise you not to go too wide. The tiled splashback above governs the width of the mantle. You could also have the splashback the same width as the induction range, and then start your mantle shelf bracket against the side of it if that makes sense? The Elica must come with some recommendations. There are normally minimum clearances etc. that must be observed. Who is going to build the housing.mantle for this extractor can they not guide you with design?
