Help making our dark narrow hallway more "finished"
Comments (19)I would add colour, perhaps change the floor depending on budget and add some nice storage where you hang your clothes rather than leave it open. You can have some kind of console under the stairs with lighting and a round mirror to make the place look spacious and perhaps small pendants , 3 or so, along the corridor. Definitely looks like it needs brightening up and lighting is key. However of course it depends on what you doing with the rest of the house, for example you could even change the stairs and have a nice runner . It is not just the hallway, but the entrance to your house and it all has to flow!...See MoreAdvice to make my cold, plain, open plan space feel warm and inviting!
Comments (32)Hi Catherine, You have a lovely open plan kitchen and lounge, but as you say, it lacks punch and interest. Since you're stuck with the stainless steel kitchen for the time being, you need to work with it and have some fun. A symmetrical arrangement of stainless steel shelves either side of the splash back for the cooker would allow you to put up interesting bottles, plants, china, etc. What about painting this wall a bright colour like Seville Orange from Crown and the other walls in natural white. You could also paint the base of the island in the Seville Orange. In the seating area, use the orange colour and some others like plum or blue-grey in fabric patterns, have cushions made up for the seating area. Also an area rug large enough for the front feet of your sofas and the coffee table to sit on with colour would brighten up this area. It's unfortunate that the TV is blocking a French window. Can it be moved somewhere else, perhaps the bay if the bottom shutters are never opened? Instead of half of the bay window having plantation shutters, I would recommend a second upper row, which could be folded back or, if you don't need coverage for privacy on the upper windows, have an interesting, colourful valance. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=valance+and+plantation+shutters+for+a+bay+window&biw=1516&bih=839&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAWoVChMIzdu7xO-FyAIVh0gUCh1aigXI&dpr=0.95#tbm=isch&q=valance++for+a+bay+window&imgrc=SjLxqYYGnQmhlM%3A...See Moreneed help with porch door and front door
Comments (18)Hi Vkololgi We think a grey traditional door with narrow glazing bars would look great against your white rendering. It gives a slightly modern twist to the house without looking out of place and will let in lots of light. Good luck with your project and post some photos of the final result when all the work is done....See MoreHelp with Windows and Front Door needed
Comments (29)Hi Minnie thank you for the help darling, yes we will mirror the right side porch brick column then split the as rest sidelights. Nice and centered for my symmetry obsessed brain. I think I know what you mean about the horizontal bars, especially as they would have to work with the panels in the doors and I can't really see how that would work. I am still fighting with the idea of plain glass though, not sure how I could get to see some modern clear glass leaded panels?? I have this strong gut feeling that adding a bit of detail to the panels will make the whole entrance feel nicer. Colour wise I think would rather have a little contrast especially as we have the garage door as well, but I'm not feeling the stronger colours. I am considering light blue from farrow and ball, too safe????...See Morelyc2021
