Needing exterior colour inspiration
Comments (26)Thank you so much that was really kind of you! Darker fascias make a surprising amount of difference, which I really like, and I can see how it anchors the roofline back down on the windows. I am pleased we decided not to switch the windows immediately as I can get the outside sorted and may be back pedalling and keeping dark ones even if we do replace them. The green/grey is lovely, the house is in a small village in rolling fields cow countryside rather than the higher sheep mountain country so as you can see in window there are a lot of trees around. The colour seems to settle the house nicely into that kind of environment. My list at the moment is now looking like -Remove stone around windows -Balance the new plainer wall with something tall -Darken the fascia/gutter -Fresher base tone paint - nothing creamy - looking to chalky/grey/green -Pop the front door :D -Poke around at the base of the house to see if the lawn can be pulled back a bit in front of the central wing. (haha - giving a bungalow wings - but you know what I mean!)...See MoreLining paper or not?
Comments (6)Hi there, I'm in the process of doing every wall in our house so I've been looking into it myself. 2 decorators both suggested lining paper - but only as an alternative to skimming the walls. Ie if your walls aren't smooth then you need to skim or line them. There are paintable lining papers so I'm not sure standard ones will be ok (don't quote me as I'm not sure). I have also read on a few sites about lining walls as well so it's fairly common. The trick is they fill the joining gaps (well they should do this to get a flat wall!) with a fine filler and lightly sand it - so it doesn't look like lining paper if you just want to paint over it. Or, you could do what I've done and spend hours filling every inch of the wall and sanding it to get a good finish. The latter is v hard work, but I can't afford to pay for all our rooms to be done now...See MoreNeed help with backsplash.
Comments (20)Hello...great units...I've just ordered similar in cream (again!). In my last house we used bespoke acrylic sheets as splash back (and behind gas range) and I never had any problems with heat. However, for your own peace of mind you might want to get bespoke strengthened glass cut to size. I painted the inside of the acrylic sheet coral (to match the facing wall and it worked very well. This time I think I will use paper (gift wrap or similar...wallpaper might be too thick) with a small repeat pattern, perhaps a retro design, and paste this to the inside of the acrylic/glass. Affix with mirror screws and seal with clear sealant to prevent steam/condensation, etc... Acrylic is cheap to replace if your design preference changes after a few years....See MoreTo paint our wooden ceiling or not?
Comments (24)Thanks Brandler! Having removed quite a large section of the cladding over the kitchen portion of the room, we actually believe it is original to when the house was built- there was nothing but unplastered boards underneath. Our surveyor seems to confirm this as he said the house was actually built by his uncle and he remembers it from when he was a child, in exactly the same deceorative state as when we bought it (it was a bit of a time capsule!). The bathroom was almost completely covered in the stuff (apart from where there was sunflower tiles). I think we really need to have a think good think about it as it obvilously influences what we put on the floor.......See MoreHU-768402840
