Dining room ideas!

Some options for dining space :) ideas/opinions welcome! I personally like the idea of a simple wall as i feel more rooms adds value but is also nice to separate off, however then there is a strange route of taking food to dining space.

Holly, not a bad dialema and what great spaces you have to play with! There are so many options for you here. I have worked on these type of properties for over 9 years and I always provide the same advice to a client. You will need to consider how you want to use the space/the environment that you want to create in order to determine where you will place the furniture. Key elements such as how you intend to travel through the property, what is practical for you, how your family spend their time at home etc. will all dictate the interior configuration. For example, some of my clients would look to create a formal reception room at the front of the property, introducing a door from the hallway. They would then utilise the second reception room as a play/TV area, library, piano space or even insert the kitchen within this zone and create a very large open plan dining/entertainment space (large sofa/TV area) at the rear, directly connected to the garden. As you can see there are so many points to consider. Have you thought about appointing a team to assist you with the space planning/visualising how it could look?

Personally I really liked the yellow suggestion. The pro said she’s getting more people asking about yellow and I’ve got a gut feeling yellow might be coming in. I know it doesn’t matter if something is “in” but it does mean better items are available to buy. Plus it’s actually a classic anyway. Since it’s south west and you may get glare I wouldn’t go with Roman blinds since they’re either fully closed or open, where as other blinds better control the light levels. And if you place a rug in a room where there’s not much space to walk around the table and chairs I think it becomes a trip hazard?? I do think a beautiful or unusual light above table would be particularly significant in this room. And I’d also like to see some hanging plants in the far corners in front of the curtains. Hanging means they will be off the floor so cleaner lines on the floor but good added interest up high. Also, I get what you like about the fridge light looking good at night, it just could do with the sides disguising somehow, and a folding screen beside it positioned carefully might do it? And another hanging plant?

You can get the effect you want with wallpaper. I think there might be issues with applying a “floating floor” ie; laminate floor, to your wall. Maybe if the “planks” in the paper ran up and down rather than side to side your room would appear more spacious? I think side to side will emphasize the narrowness of the room as already mentioned.

Hi, I think that something like this, with a bench along the wall, will be your best option. Generally you need 60 cm to be able to pull a chair back and sit down. More if you have chairs with armrests, because you need to get around the armrest to sit down. So that's 2x60 = 120 + depth of table, 90 or 100 cm. But that doesn't leave you space to walk around the table (min 50 cm). So I'd go for a rectangular table of 90 cm deep and a bench. You will have space for a sideboard or other storage on the short wall.
