Help! Colour options for cabinets
Comments (40)Hi, We are in final stages of redevelopment of farmhouse. We have a solid wood, kitchen which we need to repaint and I like the mussel colour. It’s taken me ages to decide. I found blue lights to go above island that I adored and looked at blues but we have a black granite worktop and distressed wood floors (I don’t like pale blue, I like rich blues so felt too dark) I also love green although the lights I like in blue are not as nice in green and and other ones are mega expensive. So my main q is we have a large kitchen with island and small breakfast nook. There is only 1 large window into porch and back door. Walls are all white. Will all mussel kitchen work? Will green or blue work as accent colours? Also where can I get mussel cupboard paint from? Obviously I have seen colour in kitchen spot and here in this post but doors already come painted. Comments (4)It's not easy to purchase 'off the high street' stuff that's for a period look. You need antique shops and online suppliers of one off chairs. Wing back and club chairs are of the Victorian era, so try searching online for that type of thing. Victorians were all about colour and rich textures. Blues, Greens, dark reds in crushed velvets. They also had a good old quantitiy of dark wood, mahogany, then some slightly lighter in Elm and Oak. Basically, richness was the key word. Start with a couple of wing back armchairs in a bold contrastng colour. Get a throw for the sofa to hide it's modern look if you can't replace. A rich rug, dark wood coffee table and side tables. Mixing and matching the woods is ok, as Eclectic is a good look for that Era also. Comments (3)It's LED strip lighting. It comes on a sticky tape , can curve and needs additional fixing at the end of the strip to supply power to the tape. Just a couple of notes- some but not all can be put on a dimmer switch, there are difference colours available but in my opinion warm white is kinder to our homes, sometimes the cheaper ones don't look like one long light but instead look like lots of small individual lights and personally I don't like that so much....See Morelooking for advice on blinds / curtains - trying to brighten room
Comments (12)Hi Lee- the window recess is actually a bonus in this case because it gives you sufficient depth for the 2 blind mechanisms. Plus the additional recess into the ceiling will help as well because it will disguise hanging the blinds at slightly different heights, eg one rod above the other, which you will likely want to do to get both blinds as close to the window as possible. The closer the blind the less light through the sides. I would recommend you get a standard roll roller blind, eg you want the fabric to go down the back of the roll. We’ve had really good luck ordering from Tuiss in the past for our roller blinds, and they do Romans’ as well. One thing you might also want to look at is cassette blinds, which have fixed side rails and thus offer better blackout and thermal coverage. We have a “Velux Duo” on a loft window and it’s terrific. It would give you a different option to combine a pull-up bottom mounted sheer blind to hide passerby (but keep the upper part of the window uncovered for better light) along with a traditional top mounted roman/roller blind for nighttime cover....See More
