Help needed with sideboard size and tv position
Hello! :o)
I am going mad trying to decide which size sideboard to get from the Cotswold company elkstone range. Photo and mock-up taken from sofa. There is a 41cm width difference between them. The space with the large allows 90cm diagonal space between the edge of the dining table and left edge of the unit. I feel it is enough room but of course the small allows even more room. Next up is the tv position on the wall. Above the units mean a smaller tv required for the small sideboard. Tv central to the wall gives the sofa space and dining table equal viewing angles (almost). Any input and feedback appreciated. What would you do?

last yearFor me the tv needs to go above the sideboard and it should be wider than the tv which just leaves the 1st option. I think the tv should be hung lower though and an off centre placement helps with accessories. You could consider a plant, art etc on the left to balance the wall

Comments (7)What colours and styles do you like? I'd put a sofa bed on the 290 wall with slim lamp tables either side. On the opposite wall a slim chest of drawers (even a traditional style sofa bed should fit if the drawers aren't too deep) with a tv on the top or on the wall. A large mirror opposite the window should bounce light, make it feel bigger and be handy for guests. Perhaps a couple of clothes hooks on the back of the door for hanging stuff. Binds for the window so they don't encroach on the floor space. Before reading these, I actually played around with the layout a bit further myself last night and came to the same conclusion as some of your suggestions. I've attached an updated possible plan - but in the same 3d software (which is certainly limited, but still pretty helpful since it's free!). I've tried to label some of the key appliances. This layout places the oven and hob (750mm wide - I'd prefer 900mm if at all possible) in a different position and avoids the window problem, but also has space either side (which would be best). To answer most of your questions: Internal room dimensions are 4520mm wide by 4450mm long, 2650mm tall However, there is currently a thick wall along the entrance to the kitchen, immediately to the left of the door - this houses a chimney flue (for our property and the one below). The chimney stack has been removed from the roof and we are able to knock into some of that wall, to increase the amount of the kitchen with length 4450mm. However in the far corner (by the smaller window), we would like to keep the existing thick wall because there is a cupboard in the adjacent room that uses that void from the other side. In my latest design, you'll see how much of the wall we think we might want to take out in order to create more space at the room entrance. The breakfast bar stools are a nice-to-have - the main purpose of the peninsular is to slightly separate the kitchen part from the rest of the room and allow conversations across it whilst chopping, having a drink, etc. T a drinks cooler at one end which we would like to fit in somewhere and I just thought the stools on the other side / at the corner might be handy when it's just me and my wife. The fridge (in the corner by the new outside door) is large American Style in my latest design but that's not essential - a good sized 600mm fridge freezer would be fine too, especially if we have the drinks cooler. I haven't looked at induction hobs and have always preferred gas in the past, but I will research these - thank you. I agree that the microwave should be integrated if possible! As mentioned, the boiler (and all the pipework) would ideally stay in its current position to save the cost of moving it - but we'd want to then box it in and fit other things around it. I'm a novice at this and yes, the software I found doesn't allow that much customisation of unit heights etc. hence the untidiness! This also isn't trying to show the style we want - and we haven't yet thought a huge amount about that. We'd probably opt for granite work surfaces and wooden units in simple light colours. Leaning towards traditional kitchen styling, not too modern. The property is a 1910 maisonette with period fire places in some rooms, although doors are shaker style. Comments (1)Hi Alexander, This one is 130cm wide, so possibly a bit too big - but offers plenty of storage that can be hidden behind sliding doors or left open. It's available in solid oak or walnut, and has a lovely midcentury style. Classic Oak Sideboard Here's a couple of taller units that could work, both under 110cm wide. They are in solid wood (oak or walnut), and are great for storage. Mister Sideboard Contador Sideboard If you're able to fit a wider, lower sideboard, have a look at these media units. Comments (18)It's further than I thought. My concern was the stepped in wall and also the opening to the dining area but as it's further up than I thought the ".entrance" should be fine. You would however be left with an alcove between new and old fire. I wonder what shelves would look like there (I couldn't find an exact pic) or just box it in.. Tadelakt is similar to polished concrete, polished plaster, microcement etc, you could look at any of them just to add a bit of texture/warmth. You could always pay someone to do a CAD design in your room if this is your preferred option? Having said that if you frequently have large parties maybe it's not a great idea to have a fixed structure there? Maybe a tv and fire side by side is a better option? last yearI like the bigger sideboard, but why is everything over to the right, or have I missed something? 😊. I’m not a fan of tv’s on the wall, but I have neck problems so looking up a tv is not good. Could the tv not sit on the sideboard? If you want it on the wall and it is all wired in for that, then the lower the better.

last yearThe sideboard is quite a traditional style whereas the rest of your furniture is modern. Consider something more like this.

last yearIt’s a lovely country style sideboard but I don’t feel it goes with the rest of your furniture. Shame as I do like it. Something a bit more modern and sleek would fit in better. The first below is Cox & Cox, the second is Next.
