Hello @welland thanks for your question - we don't know the exact colour of the island I'm afriad, as the paint choices on this project were our clients own.

Just another thought...if you are tall go for a counter 950mm from the floor ( or whatever works for your back ) im 5ft 7 ish and that's how tall my cabinets are ( we have 100mm high benches, so that gives extra height..not just the feet on the cabinets ) You don't want to be bending at the wrong height all day Not comfortable.

Hi Jonathan, Thank you, it’s certainly worth giving your design some thought, I really want the extension to be shorter, so I like the idea of widening it a bit. it’s a Victorian house and we want to keep as many original features as possible and in keeping so we won’t be removing the chimney breast or putting in bi-fold doors, but we could move the french doors to the end of the extension to look over the garden. I really wasn’t keen on a peninsular but I agree it’s a good use of space and this does get round the issue of two ceiling heights and the problems that will pose with the lighting. We can’t have a pitched roof so are definitely going with a lantern, the dining room will be staying as it is (except open plan) as we have a separate living room so we don’t need another dining space, but the extension could house the larder (housekeepers cupboard) and a sofa opposite if the extension was wider. Lots to think about, we don’t want to make a very costly mistake so thanks very much, I really appreciate you input.

I have these ones, they are good quality and very comfortable even though they don't look it as they are not 'padded', lots of colour options - https://www.atlanticshopping.co.uk/bar-stools/drift-oak-and-white-bar-stool.html I know they are not swivel but I find swivel stools very annoying and I specifically avoided swivel ones for my 8 and 11 year old as I imagined they would be constantly swivelling around in them which would drive me nuts. They have a good height on the back too which I like and you can lean back comfortably. I've just come across these, which go with your armchairs if you're looking for a match... https://www.atlanticshopping.co.uk/bar-stools/drift-oak-and-blue-velvet-stool.html re: kids dragging stools with legs will be no different to them dragging dining chairs with legs :-), they're unlikely pick the chair up and place it down nicely when moving, I noticed that even adults don't do that :-).

We have a long Island with walnut around the L at one side for 5 stools. We sit at the island every day, youngest two do their home learning there (eldest upstairs in bedroom). We have a free standing microwave in a cupboard in the island (we leave the door open when is use & for 15 minutes afterwards) but no other appliances...we have a deep charging drawer which I wouldn’t be without as with 5 of us & all having phones/tablets/laptops (plus the spares!) it’s great to keep them out of site when on charge/not in use. At each end of the island we have a double socket so it is easy to use the mixer or plug in anything that needs charging whilst in use. Next to the island is our dining table.
