Curtain pole for box bay window?

Hello! I’ve been trying to find answers for months and need help. This box bay is at the end of my living room, which is quite long and narrow. I had plantation shutters installed on the lower half and would now like curtains to soften the look, but I can’t find the right curtain pole. The white strip that runs along the top of the window is metal (or composite, I’m not entirely sure) and I think this means I’d have to ceiling mount the central bracket as I can’t drill into it (can I?!) The depth of the recess is only 25cm. A standard 3-sided curtain pole would mean that the finials poke out into the room, and I think this might look odd. So my question is: would it look bizarre to run a straight curtain pole across the recess (and ceiling mount the central bracket) OR should I just buy a 3-sided pole and attempt to drill through and attach to the window frame? Thank you.

I like your idea to have a straight curtain pole across the recess. Given you likely won’t draw the curtains (because the desk is in the way) you might think the centre bracket is redundant…… but you could of course attach one to the ceiling

I also think a straight pole would look fine. However if you are interested in a bespoke pole for the bay, I can recommend this company in Wales - I found them years ago through various recommendations on forums and have purchased from them. Click on the bay window section and then choose the shape of bay - it then gives you an online form to enter various measurements. From memory, they were very, very reasonable - cost more than ikea but way cheaper than John Lewis! I’m pretty sure they do ceiling brackets too. https://mob.curtainpoles.co.uk/index.html

Hiya, We always recommend making a feature of a bay window, especially in a living space. Choose 3 separate blinds that follow the windows - Roman blinds are a popular choice as they create a luxurious feel, though if you're overlooked you might like something with slats, like shutters as you suggest. Framing the window with dress curtains is a lovely addition too - as you mention, the close-in curtains can make the window feel smaller, so consider a wider curtain pole to make the most of the space and light. I have a Georgian property with box windows and lovely shutters. I want to hang curtains to keep the warmth in as the windows run floor to ceiling. My problem is that the walls are so old that Im hesitant to drill pole arms to them and would prefer to hang them off the box but have not seen pole arms that do this! Any ideas??

Shutters are a classic, timeless look that goes well with various interiors. I found a few client photos with windows similar to yours. We had another client who opted for a boxed pelmet with pinch pleate curtains which could work with your window. It creates a very clean and elegnt look. Plus voiles for extra privacy but still allows light in. Similar but with a voile curtain To save on costs you can forgo the pelemt box, pinch pleats or eyelets look stylish as is.

Thank you! I should mention the layout will change, eventually the table will go and I’ll put a cuddle chair in the recess. I’m renovating the kitchen and bathroom (in this one bed flat 🙃) so the living room is holding up to its name!
