help! Box window curtain poles

I have a Georgian property with box windows and lovely shutters. I want to hang curtains to keep the warmth in as the windows run floor to ceiling. My problem is that the walls are so old that Im hesitant to drill pole arms to them and would prefer to hang them off the box but have not seen pole arms that do this! Any ideas??

Hello, thank you for the very helpful comments. There is no other black in the room at the moment...although I have thought of adding a touch of black somewhere to ground it a bit. I have some yellow black and grey fabric and have thought of making a cushion out of this..but so far no black yet. Thanks!!!

Hi Jemima, As others have suggested, a Roman blind is probably better suited to this space. You'll still get the same sumptuous effect, and you can still choose a blackout lining if you'd like to. You could theoretically have curtains, but these would encroach on the window even when pulled back - we usually recommend people choose a curtain pole wider than their actual window so the light isn't blocked when the curtains are drawn open. Hi. I think you should be able to fit a pelmet. This is my house before we moved in which has the same issue. There's another window not in shot which actually reaches the ceiling rather than just a tiny gap. I've just got Roman blinds up now and want to add dress curtains later. I unfortunately don't know the names of the various fittings you can get for dress curtains though as have spent ages looking myself! You can get modern pelmets and they weren't too badly priced from memorŷ. I also spoke to a local curtain maker who could also make pelmets so it might be worth asking if you do like them if you want the fabric matched

I think some beautiful white voile for the day time, mounted on a very discreet ceiling mounted track, such as Silentgliss, which can be bent into the bay. I would then put a bay pole in front of this with whichever curtains go with your scheme, using a blackout lining. I would be careful not to have the curtains gathered too full though as you do not have a lot of space to the left of the window to pull them back. Although unconventional, to overcome this problem, you might want to consider having the curtains made to different widths, ie a shorter left curtain and a wider right curtain so that when they are closed they meet at the corner. On a flat window this would be very conspicuous, but your window is unusual.
