Want to renovate this bar area of my house. Ideas

I have this little corner here in my house that I've barely used over the years. An area to place my alcohol, wine, etc etc. There is a sink there but honestly, I could do without it. I would like to freshen it up and give it a more modern look. What do you guys suggest?

Here you can see the bar in the far left corner where the light is coming out.

For design context post a picture of the bigger area it has to fit into. Several pictures will help to show adjacent style. Do you have kitchen cabinets that might work as a match? Pics would help if they are much larger. This one opens smaller.

Thank you Gina for the advice! I think it does have good lines - glad you think so too! I don't think our budget will extend to rendering the whole front of the house unfortunately. We will definitely be getting a new front door - and we are reluctant to paint the garage doors so will match the front door with them I think. I should have said the upstairs window will become a Juliet balcony. The cladding on the top dark area is the same as under the front window. We were thinking of replacing the cladding with more contemporary grey horizontal cladding but we're still left with the problem then of what to do with the brickwork ?!

@Jonathan I agree the house does have potential. The reason for bringing the porch or entrance forward is currently when you enter the house the stairs are very close and I just want that space and more of an open feeling. I would like the arch shape entrance in this picture rather than the style of porch that it is currently. I’m hoping this can work. @Emily unfortunately that can’t be bought forward as a lot of other work is going to be carried out extending at the back. That bathroom will be made into an en-suite as it’s tiny and that will link to master bedroom. I am really liking the stone colour around the windows and arch and I’m thinking of that as an option, just wondering how to achieve this.

Ta da! Hope you can see the photo ok, had to use the flash (click to enlarge). Tried to keep things fairly simple without compromising on the lawn space and just bear in mind the sketches aren’t to scale. From what you say I think you’ll definitely be wanting a path to link the different areas together but what materials you use for the path is entirely up to you. Hopefully the sketches are self explanatory but I’ll give a little more info. Sketch 1, I added a water feature on the left but you could put anything here, it just breaks up the border a bit. Sketch 2, I brought the pergola forward a bit so it’s not so shoved up the corner. I think this will more pleasing especially as you’d have room for planting behind. In both 1 and 2 the shed is positioned widthways as again I think this would look more pleasing. Sketch 3 is going from Jonathan’s idea of using a curve. Pergola would have to be custom made tho. Used a corner shed and circle patio in bottom left is mainly for decorative purposes. Sketch 4 I’ve swapped things about and created a little yard area for shed on the left which is surrounded by trellis. This might be a great way to disguise unsightly things like compost bin etc. The feature could be anything like a little water fountain, statue or bird bath. Anyway hopes this gives you some inspiration and feel free to plan things how you’d like them and I’m pretty sure Sonia can advise on planting suggestions 🙂. Love 💕 your extension btw.

Is that a cupboard or fridge below? If it’s a cupboard, I’d start by putting all that booze away. Then, I’d probably decorate the shelves with something other than booze. 😉 Maybe some nice glasses, vases, artwork, etc.

i would put up a bold wallpaper behind the shelves. There are a bunch of examples of wallpapered bars like this on houzz.

I would consider putting in upper cabinets above the sink (with doors) to conceal all of the bottles, etc. It looks like you need storage more than display space. I'd then get a matching lower sink cabinet and a new counter top. You can put in a jazzy backsplash, or even some cool wallpaper between the uppers and the sink.

I have bever been a fan of booze on display, so I would either remove it or somehow get some doors to cover it.…

It looks like there is a cabinet in light wood close to the bar. It would be nice to match the doors to that, if possible.

Booze on display in a bar cabinet is kinda the point, right? 😛Anyhoo, I think the current shelves seem overly thick visually. I really like glass shelves for booze displays. And nice lighting. Wallpaper or a mirrored wall in the back would be so pretty.

I would organize. Choose the most attractive bottles, put them in some nice array on the shelf above the sink, the rest can go in the cupboard. You could consider getting a collection of old crystal bottles for your spirits. Either take the sink out or clean it up so it looks like you might use it.

The shelf above dedicate to organized glasses. Why are the shelves all cut out like that? I might look for some glass to put on each C so you have a full shelf. There appears to be one super high C can you get a piece of shelving to again fill it in, it appeas there was some sort of a bracket on each side. What's that about?

We recently received this photo from a client and we think it is stunning. I know that others have mentioned putting the bottles away. You definitely don't want to make it look cluttered, but a couple of beautiful or unique bottles on display could be nice. If you stay with a lighter design, I also like strategic pops of color, like they did with their glassware. Good luck with your project!
