Matte, satin or gloss white bathroom vanity unit

Hi,

We are building our ensuite bathroom at the moment as part of our extension.

I am so confused with the paint finishes of the vanity units.

Please help.

We are looking for a white double wall hung vanity unit which will have two counter top sinks. The taps will be in either brushed dark brass or bronze.

What paint finish should I go for the vanity?

I disregarded gloss because the handles will be quite bright and shiny but what about matte and satin white?

Different companies may use "matte" and "satin" interchangeably, so always worth looking at actual samples to get a feel for any given finish. As to whjich to pick - it is really just a matter of personal taste. There are some excellent super-matte finishes on the market which guard against fingerprints and satin paint finishes can give a real quality feel. Have a good look at the construction of any units, especially at seams and edges - there can be a big difference in quality of finish & type of construction!

Also with brass & bronze finishes - these can vary quite a bit, so always make sure you get the handles & taps together before deciding, to make sure they are a good match.

We actually had ours made my a company on eBay and the chap will make to any size you want and any paint colour you want. The top is solid oak and really beautifully made. I can probably find the link if it helps. Our room isn't done yet, just waiting for the plasterer to come and re-do all the walls, so excuse the terrible state but you'll get the general idea. The one pic is how it arrived and clearly the other is now we've fitted a Lusso Stone matt white sink on top. They do fully enclosed ones too, my preference was to have it open and will put some pretty baskets down at the bottom.

Thanks all. 1. A carpenter/fitter is coming around on Sat for the kitchen - I'll ask him for a quote for this too. In the meantime, I've been googling/thinking, and saw this from IKEA: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/washstands-taps/wash-stands/fullen-wash-basin-cabinet-white-art-70189041/ (& pale green countertop: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/washstands-taps/wash-stands/viskan-countertop-pale-green-art-70354804) I just need to remove a slice of the base at the rear for it to be level with the top of the basin. Hope that doesn't look weird. 2. Will paint the door frame - satinwood or similar. Easy one, that. :) 3./4. Will look at the navy/teal/dark grey wallpapers and paint. I think a combination of them may look really good. Have requested some samples - just waiting for them to arrive now! Great. Can't wait to get going now.

Hello! i couldn't find any vanity units I liked at all despite lots of searching. however I found Harvey George's Ebay shop and approached them. I gave them the specifications and they made it to my requirements in 3 weeks. I have attached a picture of it in my new bathroom, finished in F&B Railings . i did source the feet cups and handles as I wanted a particular 'look'. You can actually see mine on their website under 'Bespoke'. They were good value too. The flooring looks like calacatta marble, Mandarin Stone is an option, I bought some for my shower area from them but for the price I paid their delivery could be better. Have a look at porcelain or ceramic options.

Sounds great, go for it. Once the bath is the other way around, the room will feel less long and narrow as the floor space will be more square (or more short and wide rectangle really). Keep the floor on the lighter side and paint the walls and ceiling the same light colour and it'll also feel more spacious too. You could paint the built-in cupboard the same/similar colour to the walls so that it disappears visually and doesn't seem like a huge thing facing you when you first go in - get it painted in white undercoat first and see how it feels before deciding on final colour. But I'd definitely do the blue toilet/basin unit if you love that colour - it's a very easy colour to work with and it'll be nice to have something a solid colour. Another option is to go colourful/dark on the walls/ceiling as well as units and embrace the fact that it's a small room where you can be more bold with design choices. Keep tiles the same white as your toilet/bath/sink to keep it simple and then you can change paint colour without worrying about what you've chosen as tiles.
