Small bathroom and small ensuite or large bathroom?
Comments (3)From what your describing we had the same thing going on,I didn't like the ensuite( too small) and the bathroom needed to be bigger,so we got rid of the ensuite and put a door between our bedroom and bathroom like a jack and Jill. After a while I felt it just didn't work so we closed up the wall and we now have one big bathroom.im glad we did it now. I too wondered if it would devalue the house and I'm sure if a larger family moved in it could be a bit of a problem, maybe someone from the real estate world will pop in and give you some advice. Good luck with whatever way you choose to go....See Moreneed help on a small internal bathroom
Comments (11)Large tiles will make the room look bigger if laid in a grid effect but use the same colour grout and go for a glossy or light coloured tile. Avoid using borders as I think this will have the opposite effect. Have you thought of having a modern vanity unit as this will hide away the clutter. Freestanding baths will give the illusion of space but you may need to consider plumbing and cost....See MoreSmall bathroom ideas for incorporating airing cupboard
Comments (2)Hi Claire, I was intrigued with your question so I thought I'd provide you with some of my thoughts along with a quick sketch showing potential design layouts for your bathroom. It's quite tricky because the cupboard for the boiler isn't that large. I wouldn't encourage trying to fit a shower into that space because 1) 640mm wide would be too tight and it would be difficult to enjoy a shower without knocking your elbows against the walls. 2) You could widen this area by moving the stud wall down to provide you with maybe a 800mmx840mm shower but this wouldn't leave you much space for the bath, basin and WC. My opinion would be to utilise this additional space and move the bathroom door there to create a larger floor space. Option A (image on left) has the door located where the boiler is/was and the walls are kept as is currently. Option B shows the door facing towards the basin area which is a much more pleasant way to enter the room as oppose to Option A but requires adjusting the current walls slightly.I hope my thoughts help and if you require any further advice then please feel free to contact me directly. Comments (10)I don’t want to pour cold water on your plans but the soil pipe position dictates the location of your wc. You can get a macerator to allow a different wc location (I have had them with no problems) but they are quite unpopular on this site. I also feel that you are getting rid of the small wc only to make the shower room feel cramped. You should also check with an estate agent that the local market doesn’t demand a bath because you don’t want to cause problems on resale. As far as the open plan thing goes your open to the hallway plan won’t be allowed in anything other than a ground floor flat because of fire regs as you need a safe escape from bedrooms. I have an alternative suggestion which is to make the kitchen a shade smaller, make the WC bigger and add a laundry cupboard next to the wc. Of course any changes require budget. Do you have one in mind?...See MoreMary Best
