Kitchen cabinet colours for 2023

I've just installed a new in-frame timber kitchen that now needs painting. I love the whole Devol / Plain English slightly shabby vintage aesthetic, and I'm just wondering what the next big paint colours are for 2023? I previously had F&B railings which I loved, but navy blue kitchens seem a bit done to death so probably want something else this time, and as we have a section of cabinets in a dark corridor, also probably need to do a mix and match with runs of units (like the island) painted dark and some runs painted in a lighter colour. I'm in the UK so F&B, Little Green, and mylands colours would be good, though I think my local paint shop also stock Benjamin Moore. But not pink please, anything but pink! Thanks

Problem with trends is they can become dated quite quickly, but I’ve noticed dark green is very popular at the moment as are the taupe shades. I would agree with Sarah to choose a classic look and see which one you love. I think white can look fantastic as does natural wood in a Scandi style. Love any sort of green too. What’s your favourite colour? Choose that!

We have antique pine floorboards and will have white quartz worktops so really any colour would work.

I agree crisp white and a change of handles would look great. Also a industrial grey would look amazing, especically with the exposed hardware. Obviously this all depends on the rest of your kitchen but you could be more extreme and apply something cheap like chipboard to the back and apply some fun wallpaper to make more of a feature of all the items that you will have on display.

God I love your cabinets and worktop - don't change a thing! You could add pops of colours - almost anything will look good as a nice neutral pallet. Do you like maybe a soft lavender which always goes nice with the soft grey-green of cupboards? F&B Elephants Breath has a hint of it. I'm glad to see everyone saying leave cupboards as they are. I would stick to neutral colours as your kitchen sounds quite contemporary and anything to flashy may upset the balance. Black glass looks very elegant but a white or transparent splash back will help to open the room up. Grey is a good middle ground but too much grey can look rather drab. I would say that the deciding factor should be the size of the kitchen as black may close the room in. But it is wise in my opinion to go for the same finish as you have for the work tops. I have enclosed a CAD design of a kitchen with cashmere cupboards and a black glass splash back for inspiration. Would love to see some pictures of your kitchen!

You are more than welcome Teresa, glad I can help. I can now completely understand why changing the panels would be a real hassle - it would essentially be taking the kitchen apart and reinstalling. As the panels are Wenge effect then painting will not be an issue at all. Just make sure you give them a good clean and wipe over with sugar soap before applying any primer/light sanding. If you are struggling to get a good colour match to the doors - it might be worth hunting down a company that specialises in paint colour matching. Explain to them that you are looking to paint end panels I'm assuming they are laminated/MFC and they should be able to guide you on what base would be best as well as the prep work involved to make sure the panels are as hardwearing as they can be. I think a pop of pink would be fabulous! That's the beauty of making the kitchen your own and adding colour with accessories - you can have what you love and if you change your mind years down the line you won't have to redo the whole kitchen. What sort of pink are you thinking? Do you have any artwork in the kitchen that has a small amount of pink that you could tie in? With the colour palette you have any kind of pink would work well in there, from a nice dusty rose, blush pink to a hot pink (if you are daring enough). I’m not sure if looking for trends is the way forward. I live very near to Devol’s main showroom/mill, and over the years, I don’t think their colours change very much at all - they’re quite classic. So what I think I’m saying is just go with something that makes your heart sing! On a personal note, I have an in frame kitchen and we used F&B Dimpse - and years on I still love it - but I notice some touch points get grubby. As a result I’m often thinking about re-painting with a slightly grubbier colour to blend in with life (dirt!!). I’ve used Mylands Grosvenor Square in a few of our rooms and love it - so I think I might use this eventually on the kitchen. It’s a pale stone/grey/green colour, that’s a bit paler and greener than Devol’s mushroom.

I'm leaning towards dark grey green at the moment. I still love navy but we might not stay in this house more than 3 or 4 years so trends are good as it should see us through to selling it.

I wouldn't follow trends for a kitchen that should last over 20 years. White never goes out of fashion.

Thanks but I like trends and would like to be ahead of the curve, hence asking the question. It’s a painted kitchen and can always be repainted if our tastes change.

Green with pine flooring looks great and also goes nicely with the white worktop. If the fascias are paintable that an advantage as you can simply repaint them in years to come as trends change.

It all depends on the actual colour of the worktop. White, but what white? Photos would be good. Some colours are timeless, some are trend related. The grey trend ended years ago, replaced with navy, then green, now we're in warm colours and terracottas etc. Anything goes, just don't put too many trends together, it can look 'forced'. Personally, you can't go far wrong with 'stone' colours, they are timeless.

@Juliet Docherty worktops aren't installed yet, but its going to be a standard white cararra style with a very faint vein, very understated. Should go with anything.

White carerra worktops are a good all round choice and very on trend.

Just to add as a seller of kitchens the grey trend definitely didn’t end years ago. lt’s still one of our best sellers.

Well if you want to be on trend, choose green. If you want to be ahead of the trend visit a couple of showrooms like Neptune and speak to them. Simple.
