Design Dilemma Hallways

help with mirror, lamp, console / hallway styling!

Hi

I have just upccyled an old console table which neatly fits in my hallway. I now need to find a mirror and a lamp that will complete the look of both the hallway and my home overall!

Currently I have chrome / nickel accents as well as a mix with more modern sleek brass. So a bit of a hodge podge! I have some cotswold co furnniture interspersed with this brass look.

I'm completely stuck as the console table is the only one that fits in the space that I can find (plus i dont want to spend fortunes buying a new one!). I also don't plan to replace the wall art which is quite sleek so i need to find some pieces that will bring it all together.

Any help would be great as I'm a bit lost!! I need a mirror that is no wider than 80cm or taller than 100cm.

I think I’d go for a simple round mirror. This is the Apartment mirror from Dunelm which is 75cm, I’m not sure from where you’ve measured though but i’d leave a few cms gap from the light switch. I’d pick up the coral in the art for the lampshade with a similar shaped base, maybe in an off white if you don’t like the orange.

I’d also add accessories maybe just 2 others so 3 in total and mix the height. You seem to have a bit of a coastal vibe so maybe a preserved flower bouquet including grasses (try Shida Preserve)

I agree with Minnie, a round mirror would look lovely perhaps with a frame that picks up the wood of the console table, which looks fab. Clever you! There are so many choices of lamps, but I rather like this simple one from Next.

The carpets are a greige on an iPad and look good! I suppose its key not to add too much but add enough for interest as halls can be boring.I really like both ideas, especially the first pic as love those mirrors (you can get small versions too) with the prints. The benches also look really narrow in both? I'd put templates on the floor and practice walking around them! I had a console in my last hall but got rid of it in the end as it was a squeeze and just not practical. I think your hall is wider though and the benches are definitely narrower so should be fine but try it! I think a shelf and pics could look good, it looks as if the ceiling is high enough

my entrance hall is way smaller than yours, with similar stairs, white banister and natural oak console and mirror. For years on end each time we've redecorated it has been where we 've experimented with really bold colour choices for walls and carpets, some arguably less successful than others. Last year was the first time we tried yellow - none of us really likes the colour but we were running out of ideas. We used Dulux's Sunny Day throughout, freshened banister and skirting with really bright white and picked a bold striped carpet for the stairs. It's been the best combination so far, and has looked even larger and brighter after we incorporated some small golden accessories on the wall and console. I cannot reccomend it strongly enough. Funniest thing is whoever visits and praises it always starts with 'I don't really like yellow but.... this yellow looks amazing or this yellow is sort of different ... Do buy a tester and give it a try. Use natural materials where you can and add a little gold here and there. Our hall has never looked so large, bright, warm and welcoming, and it doesn't look like we'll be experimenting again soon. Hi. So is it a modern coastal look that you're after? In terms of practicality does the room need to cope with people coming in with with surfboards and sand everywhere etc or not?! I don't know if I'd put the console etc where you put the chairs as it seems more practical for keys post etc and maybe the sofa where you put the console or in the middle of the curved wall? Is the curved wall measurement also correct? It seems longer but could be wrong!

Thank you both so much, really aprecaite your help and comments! I had thought about simple, contemporary metal frame mirrors and have found an arch mirror, hopefully it works. Thanks for that lovely lamp idea from Next, Sonia! cheers, mel
