Please help with my paint choice dilemma!
Comments (14)I would paint all the walls a soft buttery yellow - Restoration Hardware's Butter would be perfect. New window covering in the alcove could be a roman-style roll-up blind (you can find good inexpensive ones at K-Mart) that would pick up the tones from the wood floors and shutters. Art with red, gray and yellow matting hung in a grouping over the fireplace would add a classy touch. Your current furniture needs to be re-arranged in an attractive, more intimate way. Turn red rug the long way in front of fireplace and place couches across from each other on either side of the rug. Store some of the red striped cushions. Attractive but too many. Unclutter and re-arrange the items on the shelves. Rebecca...See MorePlease help me with my new bathroom!
Comments (27)That makes absolute sense. We're going vinyl but cheap and it needs to be boarded but a friend is doing that. If it rips we can then replace really cheaply. Yes, a mirror is a must as the window is quite small with obscured glass. We only moved last year but the en suite didn't appear to have ever been used. It's nice but with porcelain tiles that are a nightmare to keep clean. We got lucky with the bathroom. Fittings are quite old but it's wood panelled all round with a cast iron bath and a couple of sash windows. It did have yellow walls and a dark green bath but I painted the bath black with elephants breath on the panelled walls. I'm going to repaint the walls though as it's not a real wow and it could be. I'm just working up to it though as painting wood panels is not an easy task!...See MoreNew floorplan/layout advice and help please
Comments (14)Hi Lisamarie. Do you have the measurements? It may hopefully encourage people to help rather than guesstimating based on the doors and kitchen cabinets. How will the internal corridor work in the garage? Will there just be a door knocked through from the drive? Is extending the flat roof extension an option although you may need to do something with the pitch of the roof? Have you had a quote for moving the boiler and electrics? How much storage do you need left in the garage? Can the stairs be moved?...See MoreNew lounge layout - help please!
Comments (9)To throw another idea into the pot: there are some lovely spaces and opportunities for views here, but furniture is oddly arranged and blocks the flow. If the dining table were to be centred in the dining area, dropping a light to pool onto the table, it would create a convivial atmosphere for eating, and a clear view of the garden for everyone. Plus, all the chairs can be used. This area would then feel more of a 'room', and less of a 'walk-through'. The new doorway then naturally leads through and frames the view to the garden. Instead of blocking this with the back of the sofa, place it along the rhs wall near the bedroom. For this size of space, I would probably choose two comfortable, low-backed, armchairs instead of a sofa. This gives you much more flexibility and you can either push them close together, facing the sofa with a rug/coffee table between, in sofa style, or position them at right angles near the left hand corner, perhaps with a lamp table squaring them off. You also then have the option of placing the sofa directly in front of the large window in the winter when the garden is bleak, with a chair either side, facing the log burner. Assuming you want to primarily use this room for chilling out with TV, I'd put the TV in the top lh corner. This location prevents the summer sun reflecting off the screen, and you will have the benefit of being able to watch it while eating and within the flexible seating arrangements. Alternatively, seeing the fire while dining creates a cosy atmosphere and you could swap it round. Ideally, plan the location of the TV and fire around your family lifestyle, this is matter of preference and there is an argument for both. I hope this helps; you're creating a lovely, useable space - good luck!...See More- 10 months ago
