ash4711 I agree, I grew up with a house full of Gplan teak furniture that my father bought from a complete Showhouse sale on one of his sites. I loved it then and still do, looking in so many design articles here and on other sites that style of teak furniture from the 20th century seems to come up most. Various members of my family still have most of that Showhouse furniture from the '70s.

No offence taken! It's a very small bedroom of two teenagers, this is the bookcase AFTER the tidy - as they use it to store all of their belongings. Thanks for the suggestions, I'm leaving the shelf up for now as I suspect the storage option will be useful in future. For now I aim to remove all the items from the shelf and start again with one big item (e.g. a big frame or vase - not a trailing plant) as a focal point.

Great topic! I aspire to being happy with what I choose. I love all styles and admire confidence and quirkiness. I also love advice. I would however expect a visitor to my home to say I’m more in the traditional camp rather than the on trend camp. We’ve just started using MSTeams at work and I’m surprised at the number of colleagues who’s rooms are completely white/neutral ( not fake backgrounds). I was the only one sitting in a blue room.
