Can I use plantation shutters in a modern home?
Comments (7)We had them installed on all the front facing windows, so that was 3 x large windows in MDF and 2 x smaller (but not tiny) bathroom windows which are in some kind of upvc due to the location. They all look the same though, colour, slat size etc. We used Hillary's in the end, 10 weeks lead time as they come on a slow boat from China, and installed in less than half a day. The total price was just under £2k (they had a 1/2 price sale on and I was very close to the financial year year end when I ordered so think that's why I got such a bargain price) My other alternative was to have made to measure roman blinds, which weren't going to solve our privacy issues, and I'd worked out they would have cost the same. I would recommend Hillary's, quick and easy to order, no problems. (p.s, they are really easy to clean, much easier than vertical blinds)...See MoreWould like window shutters but what would go with brown upvc windows?
Comments (9)I think you'll have to go with white or whatever looks best indoors in those rooms. You can always think about getting the windows colour bonded at some point instead of replacing them. Then you can choose any colour for those inside and out! You can paint UPVC yourself - All of our windows inside are painted the same colour as the walls in those rooms so that the windows blend into the walls. They were dark brown / mahogany ( vile ) - Outside they are all sage green. If you're going to paint the frames inside which will brighten the rooms and let you have whatever colour shutters you like, use Zinsser 1-2-3 primer and then paint away....See MoreShutters with blackouts - advice
Comments (9)Integrated blackout blinds do achieve exactly what it is required. You may encounter a surcharge from your chosen shutter company. You could add a blackout roller blind yourself also. Depending what type of windows you have (particularly sash windows) may be awkward and less elastically aesthetically pleasing than others. Top Tip:- A large louvre/slat will allow more light into a room when open and shall also block out more light when closed. Happy to provide any further guidance or information that you may need. Comments (8)They sound very expensive. If you're not happy, speak to the company. Most reputable firms are happy to make sure customers are satisfied. First check the contract you signed and what their policies are for unhappy customers. Does the contract specify that the shutters will match up to the windows? Or did you specify you wanted this (so is it only now they are saying it's not possible)? Or does it specify a particular sizing or 'look'? Its important you know what you signed up for, as that's what the company should have provided. I hope you haven't signed anything to say you're happy with the installation as that might make things harder - what happened when you looked at the work they'd done, before they left site?...See MoreUser
