I do like that colour - its certainly that type of shade we are expecting.
Here's a picture from the sales particulars for the house. We expect to pivot everything off the feature wall though, bed/linen is being replaced, as are the cupboards - probably something not dissimilar to your image above but havent chosen anything specific yet.
The room is south facing, with a large bay window, so very bright. Standard new-ish build (~1995) ceiling height around 2.7m (i think).It'll be that rear wall behind the bed that has the artwork and wall panelling/wallpaper.

Comments (85)It looks great, I'm glad you and your daughter are so pleased and she has lots of room for friends over, playing etc. It can also be easily and cheaply adapted as she grows if she wants. My only criticism (if you can call it that) is that if not already your daughter may soon also want the desk to double up as a dressing table and therefore I think a mirror was a good idea but the memo board (which looks great) can always be moved as and when needed. (I thought i'd posted a comment on that previously but obviously not!). I might also add a desk light there for working during winter months. Comments (14)Yes i think it will look good. Add either colour or texture for warmth though . My son has very similar but the brick on 3 walls with a couple of street signs and a banksy mural on the 4th wall with a laminate "loft" style floor. Comments (0)Natalia’s first home! It was such fun helping her to get the look she wanted. I was initially invited for a 2 hour consultancy session which took place before she moved in; we talked about decor, storage, window dressings, furniture layout, wardrobe design, accessories and an art wall. It’s amazing how much you can cover in a short time and when I left I know Natalia’s head was spinning… in a good way! Happily she called me back once she had the keys to the apartment and asked me to design the art wall which had now become the focus of her attention. Natalia showed me the website she had found… Desenio.com. She loved almost everything on it so I asked her to draw up a wish-list! Room layout This is a 1-bedroom apartment in a period property conversion. The lounge is rectangular in shape with a beautiful window in the long wall and the door to the hall on the other. The kitchen units run along one of the short walls and the art would be placed opposite. I took into consideration the size of the doors on the kitchen units and decided to balance this by choosing large format framed prints instead of smaller ones. We had discussed the furniture layout so I knew a sofa would be sitting in the corner of the room and I felt this ought to be integrated and become part of the design. Decorating We wanted the ‘wow’ factor to do this lovely property justice and it took only a little convincing from me for Natalia to use the dark coffee colour (Royal Academy Basilica) for the short walls and a warm white (Fleur Snow White) for the rest of the walls and ceiling. Both colours are available online from paint supplier ColourandPaint.com. During the Christmas holiday break Natalia got out the paint roller and did some DIY! She didn’t have a hammer though… oh dear, I feel a song coming on… so I took a few bits and pieces with me when it came time to hang the pictures. Affordable art This art wall came in at around £300 – and yes, it is ‘wow-ing’ all Natalia’s friends. We were both pretty pleased with our handiwork too! What about something like this so create a shelf for art? Just thinking the style of panelling would work well. It should around 1/3 of the wall height though so you’d need to think about the bed height

I’m not suggesting this wallpaper, just trying to find an image of panelling and paper that isn’t in a victorian house! If you could find a paper that didn’t fight with the art you could do similar.
i wouldn’t paper the panels as you originally suggested as I think that style of panelling and papered panel look is more suited to a period property.
personally I’d do similar to my last post but it’s your home :)

Yes, i wouldn't put it with that last pic!
Maybe look for a textured wallpaper, this is a grasscloth but there are loads around like silk, linen, sisal, raffia effect etc

Me again.
The picture arrived, and the time to decorate is rapidly approaching.
There were three wallpapers we liked, with the right general colour set. I've mocked up a few examples of the picture sitting on top of each of those papers. I'd be grateful for thoughts.
I read somewhere that pictures can look great when sitting on top of a wallpaper that has a different scale. E.g. if the scale of the picture is big (as in our case, with the big Mickey/Minnie) the background wallpaper ought to be a small scale (with a much finer design).
I've tried to size the wallpaper and picture to scale, and to approximately the size of the wall its going on (for clarity, its the wall behind the bed). Here is a picture of the 3 wallpaper samples behind the actual picture;
(we have a preference of those 3, but will keep that to myself for now pending others' views). - 8 months ago

8 months agoFeature walls are usually behind the bed, or in a living room, on the fireplace/tv wall. I’m not sure about wallpapering the window wall, but it could work although they still don’t look right together. Why not have the wallpaper behind the bed and the art on a plain wall or in another room? Or a nice bit of cladding with a shelf for art?

i might be coming back around to the panelling idea. Problem is the picture is large - almost a metre square - so the panels may need to be relatively small. Alas there is no other suitable wall in that room (and not many in any other rooms, tbh).
As an alternative paper that would suit the art, we saw something like this textured paper (lots of different colours, we are inclined towards blue).
Another alternative is that we relocate another piece of art and use instead. The obvious logical piece to swap with is this (1m x 0.5m ish);

Hi folks.
Sorry for the delay coming back to this - we keep going round in circles with ideas, but think we have started to coalesce around something we both like.
Our latest preference is shaker style wood panelling, with a textured paper within the panel apertures. Something like this;
Colours broadly as per the wall on the right, though its likely the paper we will choose will be darker than that, something closer to the colour of the wall on the right. Im also thinking that the wooden panel boards are likely to be single pieces of cut wood/mdf rather than with any form of moulding, as in the picture above. The artwork mentioned about will sit in the middle of the centre panel
Something broadly like this (excuse the shoddy MS Paint usage.
Little Greene 'Hicks Blue' might be an early favourite.
So, questions;
1) am i barking up the wrong tree here?2) if wallpaper, should the wood panels be a similar shade to the paper or something that deliberately stands out
3) or should i just paint it all one colour?
4) better to have the panels a similar size, or e.g. the top row much bigger (longer vertically) than the bottom row (or in other woods the middle horizontal panel would be much lower down, so the bottom panels are more square)?

Right, time for an update.
After stressing about it far too long, we stumbled across a relatively plain mural which we both liked, and then chose a colour to match. We are very pleased. Pictures;
Some specifics;
Mural - Graham and Brown Ink Blue OmbrePaint - Little Green Hicks Blue
Lamps - Anglepoise Type 75 Black Umber
Ceiling Light - Kosilight Eli
Switches - either LAP (from Screwfix) or Varilight
Couple more bits to do - the mirror is there temporarily (probably), the TV will go on the wall, we will either get a (blue probably) headboard or replace the bed and, longer term, we'll paint (and probably rearrange) the cupboards (colour tbc).
