Artwork and Wallpaper on a Bedroom Feature Wall

Hi everyone,

I've managed to get hold of a piece of artwork that I had thought we had missed out on. The original plan was to put this above our bed. When we thought we couldn't get it, we were instead expecting to put some bold wallpaper, probably something with a dark blue background, to act as a feature wall.

Now I have the artwork, we have a dilemma. It's a greyscale image (see here), 90cm square. If we use wallpaper, will it need to be similar colours (i.e. white/grey/black), or the fact its greyscale can we get away with some more vibrant? Or should we knock the idea of wallpaper on the head, and just paint the walls instead?

A separate idea we had was to use wood panelling, something like this, with the artwork in the middle of the middle panel. Its then a question of whether we should leave the rest of the room painted, or whether we add a bit of wallpaper to the side panels - this is a feature wall afterall...!

I suppose my dilemma is that wallpaper may take the shine away from the art, but that having it just painted might not create the feature we are hoping for.

Any hints, tips or pictures of something similar would be very helpful!

Thanks

Steve
