difficult TV wall, advise most appreciated!

I am going crazy with the TV wall.. would like the Japanese panel out , not sure what to replace with ! Husband wont think of wall papers , he hates wall parts with a passion ! I am really struggling with ideas . Thank you x

I would agree that a wood slat wall would look good as long as it works with the floor. I initially thought about a stone clad wall but you might have too much stone in the room then, a wooden slat wall would soften the space slightly.

Wood slats would look lovely but tiles could also look fabulous on the wall.

Or Paint the wall in a dark feature colour (railings from F&B always looks fabulous)

I think the option of having the tv under the stairs.. Is the best idea.. Maybe have a tv, media unit made to measure if possible .. Draws or cupboards underneath for storage. Small shelves at the sides for little ink-naks. If needed.. A smaller maybe glass oblong table in front of the window. The table will still allow light through.. Making sure passable through to the stairs.. And the sofa on the back wall.. Lovely rug in the centre with coffee table or chest for extra storage if needed... Maybe some open floating shelves off set above the sofa. Use an accent colour with accessories.. From the rug or cushions.. Don't go overboard with large piece of furniture... Simple statements....

Thanks stabmonkey....am confused about where I'd put the tv though? At the moment the egg chairs are at the window end...I had thought about moving them to in front of the patio doors. The fireplace is more or less opposite the door....the patio doors are to the fireplace right, the window to the fireplace left as you look at the fireplace.

Hi. in terms of interiors I would guess people would like to understand how to identify and mix undertones, what colours to use depending on the light in the room, what proportion of colours to use in a room and how to make the house flow etc. On the flip side if you opt for neutrals how do you get a scheme to work. I'm sure I'm not alone in that the colours I wear are definitely not the colours I would use in my home so although clothes are based on what would complement your eyes, skin tone, hair colour, figure etc how does that translate into interiors (although there is a proportion of black in both :) )

Hi Tony. I think having the tv at an angle and building the cupboard out a little is probably the best option if you didn’t want to downsize the tv. Regarding speakers, ceiling speakers are a good idea if you’re in the construction phase, they usually come in pairs (left and right) and four would be more than adequate for a large room. You would need the ceiling speaker hoods as well for fire and sound protection. Also the necessary wiring would need to be hidden and all speaker wires go to an AV receiver which then connects to tv ( I think...not really an expert on this). Have a look at Richer sounds website, they should have lots of info: https://www.richersounds.com/hi-fi/in-wall-ceiling-speakers.html @ Jonathan, I can feel my hubby’s horrified look if he heard you say that TVs alone have adequate speakers ;-) (he is a perfectionist when it comes to tech stuff mind). We prefer freestanding speakers so we can upgrade as and when. And finally is the fireplace already existing? If not (at the risk of offending other Houzzers:)) maybe consider tv set into chimney breast above a low ribbon style fire, perhaps bio ethanol fuel as these wouldn’t need a flue. Tv above fire is usually a big no no as the tv is too high up and would cause neck strain but the modern styles could work well. Some photos for inspiration (click to enlarge)

My first thought was to paint the wall in a dark grey. The tv would disappear and the art would pop. Love bringing texture in so maybe a slatted wall painted in a dark blue grey?

I hated wallpaper with a passion too…then thanks to having the first Covid lockdown putting a full stop to my kitchen renovation before the walls were re plastered and tiling done, found myself trying out removable wallpaper to hide the mess. I even used it behind my hob. It is honestly fabulous stuff- I got so many compliments once people could see it and it held up well. You could try it out as a test for “real” wallpaper or whatever other materials you are considering, and your husband could see if he can live with it… or even might like it.

I agree with SV S. Painting the wall a dark colour, grey, navy, green etc, would look amazing. It’s easy to do, relatively cheap and if you later find it’s not enough, then you could consider another finish at a later date.
The examples below don’t match your style but I think they show how good a dark paint can look.

I did ours in f&b downpipe to tie in with the kitchen next door and this works for little cost.

We agree that you need to disguise the amount of boxy shapes that appear on this wall. Painting the wall dark or having wooden slats would help to unify the wall. The only other thing we would say is if you do remove the Japanese panel we would replace it with something else as it feels as though something needs to be above the fireplace to help balance out the TV.
